Shrine house some historical remnants of the Meiji Restoration!
Some 18-months previously, I arrived in Shimonoseki having walked from Mojiko via the pedestrian tunnel under the Kanmon Strait. On a beautiful Spring day I took in most of the sights on my 12km trek...
There was a torii gate and a stone steps a few minutes walk from Shimonoseki Station. When you go up this stone steps, you will find the precincts and the main shrine are placed in front of you, and there was also a guide that was supposed to worship by tourists. Since the precincts are a little hill, it was originally thought that the view toward the sea was open, but now it is blocked by buildings such as buildings and the most conspicuous is the "Kaikyo YUME Tower". It was.
From JR Shimonoseki Station, you will arrive at the stone steps of the shrine in 3~4 minutes, and then climb 115 steps, but the plate is inserted in the place 々 with the number of steps as if it were human age. If it is 100 steps, it is like 100 years old. It was founded in 1186, the year after the Battle of Dannoura.
It is about 300 meters east of JR Shimonoseki Station. First you need to climb 70 〜 80 steps. It seems that the origin of this shrine began in 1186 in the latter half of the 12th century when Genji defeated the Taira clan, and four fishermen worshiped the shrine in awe of the origin of Genji Yoshitsune. It is a shrine with a long history since 835 years ago.
A shrine enshrined on a stone steps along National Highway No. 9, 4 or 5 minutes east of the east exit of JR Shimonoseki Station. It is said that the shrine was built in the place where Minamoto no Yoshitsune prayed for victory in pursuing and killing the Heike. It is said that the military flag raised by the Kihei Taira at the end of the Edo period was dedicated as the god of Takefuchi Nagahisa. There are many shrines related to Shimonoseki such as the Heike, Genji, Kihei Taira, and Shinsaku Takasugi.
