The South Great Wall is located in Songtao Miao Autonomous County, Tongren City. It was originally built during the Wanli period of the Ming dynasty. It was used as a defensive wall by the Ming and Qing governments to suppress the Miao people. The side wall, stretching from the south to the north, was constructed from soil and bluestones. In accordance with the terrain, it was arranged in a straight line, the character of 品, or the shape of a plum blossom. It provides the historical materials for studying the ruling of the remote minority in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
