Cultural Experiencial Area
The Ancestral Home of Xiang Wang is located beneath Xuhai Road's former Yellow River dyke in the southern suburbs of the city. It is the birthplace of Xiang Yu, the one-time overlord of the Western Chu. The descendants of Xiang Wang once set up a monument as a memorial to their ancestor but it was later destroyed during a period of turmoil. In 1935, the Yingfeng and Huai'an Pavilions were built. The Ancestral Home of Xiang Wang is surrounded on all four sides by "Commissioner"-type walls. From south to north the buildings and structures include a stone paifang, stone watchtower, great gate, the Yingfeng Pavilion and a room memorializing Xiang Wang. The Yingfeng Pavilion—one of the primary structures—has a statue of Xiang Yu. To either side of the main room in the Yingfeng Pavilion, there are displays of cultural relics. The memorial room is constructed to imitate dynastic Han architecture. A statue of Consort Yu can be found here.
