A comfortable chair, a lovely cup of tea of one's choice and good conversation is the way to enjoy the sweet and savoury offerings on the 3-tier cake stand. Beautifully presented, each different in texture and taste, the finger and pinwheel sandwiches were tempting as were the sweet offerings such as chocolate brownies, macarons and green tea fruit scones with clotted cream and house-made jam. A chef was at hand to tell us what was on the cake stand and I thought this was a very nice touch. For a reasonable price one gets an elegant and substantial Afternoon or High Tea. Sparkling wine and champagne are available at extra cost but we like our tea. Service was excellent and unrushed. Bookings are essential in order to avoid disappointment as the High Tea is very popular. This was not the first time we've had High Tea at the Shangri-La nor will it be our last.
We took my niece for a Chocolate High Tea for her 21st birthday & we had a lovely time. Everything was set up for us when we arrived in a nice area of the lounge by the windows. After mentioning the occasion when booking, the top plate had a Happy 21st Birthday message written in chocolate for the Birthday Girl...such a sweet touch! The presentation & the cakes were all exquisite, the tea, coffee & hot chocolate great & the service was impeccable - 5 star all the way. I should add that the price was also more reasonable than any of the other Sydney Hotels High Tea, at $62 for two people (champagne costs extra), we thought the whole experience was excellent value & highly recommended!
We had an amazing high tea here. The scones, melted in your mouth, with home made style berry jam. The sandwiches and rolls were delightful, but I love high teas for the sweets and this was extraordinary. Banana mousse, pineapple cake, chocolate cake and macaroons. So yummy - all of it. My partner had coffee, which he said was very good and I had a black tea infused with rose - delicious. The service here was very good, although Tuesday afternoon, it was not busy at all. It is hard to find high teas on Trip Advisor - view the website High Tea Society - find the venues and read the reviews on that.
