Tangshan was named after Emperor Taizong Li Shimin of the Tang dynasty when he was stationed in Goguryeo. It is the cradle of modern Chinese industry. It has a solid industrial foundation and is known as the "Northern Porcelain Capital". Here was the birth of China's first mechanized coal mine, the first standard gauge railway, the first steam locomotive, and the first barrel of machine-made cement, which gave birth to a rich industrial civilization. Tangshan is the birthplace of Pingju in China. The shadow puppets, Pingju and Laoting drums known as the "Three Flowers of East Hebei" are well-known throughout the country and are national intangible cultural heritage.
