Tianshui City is located in the southeastern part of Gansu Province. Ever since ancient times, people who went along the Silk Road had to pass through Tianshui. With a long history and rich cultural heritage, Tianshui is one of the birthplaces of ancient Chinese culture. The unique geographical location has created many unique natural landscapes in this place. Tianshui Fuxi Temple and Fengtai Mountain are where Chinese people from around the world go to conduct ancestral worship. The Maiji Mountain Grottoes, which are located in Tianshui, are one of China's Four Famous Grottoes. They are famed throughout the world for their beautiful clay sculptures and steep caves.
The Maijishan Grottoes are one of China's four most famous caves. Constructed over 1000 years ago, there are over 200 different caves cut into the side of a hill. Visitors can climb the walkway on the side of the cliff to admire the Buddhist sculptures and surrounding scenery.
The Maiji Mountain Scenic Area is located in Tianshui City. The four main sites within the scenic area are the Maiji Mountain Grottoes, the Xianren Cliff, Shimen and the Quxi Scenic Area. There is also an ancient town and the Jieting Hot Spring Scenic Area. The Maiji Mountain Grottoes, Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, Longmen Grottoes and Yungang Grottoes are the four major Buddhist grottoes in China. Xianren Cliff has three cliffs. The west cliff holds the most Buddhist temples. Shimen Mountain is located in the southeastern part of Tianshui City. There are many historical sites from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to be found here. To the southeast of Maiji Mountain, the Quxi Scenic Area is a natural botanical garden and safari park.
Maiji Mountain is well-known both in China and abroad for its unique natural hot springs. Maiji Mountain Hot Spring Resort Hotel is located in scenic Tianshui, with Maiji Mountain in the south, Dufu Caotang in the north, Shimen Qifeng in the east, and Taishan, Fuxi's hometown, in the west. The resort is conveniently located, and only a dozen kilometers from the Maiji Grottoes, one of the four major grottoes in the country. It is an ideal holiday destination for tourists.
Fuxi Temple was originally named Taihao Palace and also known as Renzong Temple. It was built from the 19th to the 20th year of the Chenghua Period of the Ming Dynasty and has undergone several lots of renovation work to create a large architectural complex. Facing South, the majestic complex presents a distinctive style of traditional Chinese architecture. Fuxi was the first emperor in ancient legends, so the complex is designed like a palace. It is China's largest architectural complex honoring Fuxi.
