I have been to many places in Washington, D.C. Capitol lounge is hands down the absolute best time I have ever had in the 30 years visiting this wonderful city. Bartender is a bit odd but the atmosphere makes up for it. Crowds come in waves as late night is the best time. The people are friendly, service is great and having a jukebox absolutely kicks it up a notch!
I recently visited this fine establishment with friends and colleagues during Police Week. The food was great and plentiful. The service and staff cared you were there and provided a friendly atmosphere. I'm certain it's a busy place when the Nationals are in town . Old established neighborhood.
This is one of those places as I so often say that you need to take and appreciate for what it is, rather than expecting it or trying to force it to be something else. I love that this bar exists on this strip - that there are still places right along the row that have that old Washington feel. If you're looking for an upscale place or a chain joint or an amazing meal then this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a great place for a drink, to watch a game, to host a party (they've got a great private room downstairs and an amazing events coordinator) or to people watch, then this is the spot. I've hosted two parties here and was pleasantly surprised by how well both went on the planning and guest experience side. The bar minimum is very reasonable and there's a chance that you might just run into kevin spacey if he's shooting that week in the downstairs room of this place, as I know he's frequented this spot before.
This is a local hang-out, but they had outside dining so we enjoyed that and it was within walking distance from our hotel (Capitol Hill Hotel) Great for a pizza & beer.
