I've been visiting the Colonnade for years. Their Sunday brunch was legendary. Twenty years ago it was available almost every Sunday. Unfortunately, over the years, they offer it less and less often. Last year I enjoyed their Christmas dinner. It was spectacular as always. The dinner is served as a grand buffet with several stations of food, luxuries such as crab claws, raw oysters, salmon, and a huge array of deserts. All of this is presented in an outdoor glass-walled pavilion in the courtyard of the Fairmont hotel. With beautiful topiary surrounding it, you get the feeling that you are no longer in the middle of Washington DC. My only complaint is that they are not putting it on anymore. They just recently updated their website and removed Thanksgiving and Christmas from the list of Sundays they offer the brunch. This year (2015) the Fairmont hotel is offering those meals in their Juniper Restaurant... a far cry from the decor and ambiance of the Colonnade... as prefix meals with limited buffet items. Keep your eyes on this one. When they do open the Colonnade, jump on it. You won't regret it.
