Dongzi Garden Scenic Area is located in the southeastern part of Dezhou. It was built to commemorate the great Confucian reformer Dong Zhongshu of the western Han dynasty. The central feature is the Shiwang river lined with gray and white ancient buildings. Key attractions include Dong's study, the Dezhou Confucian Exhibition Hall, and the Sance Solid Water Archway. In his youth, Dong studied Confucianism in Dezhou for 13 years at the writing desk still preserved here, which was destroyed then rebuilt after the war. During reconstruction, Dong's other works were brought to complete the memorial and a bronze statue of him was placed on his desk.
