Memorial of Eighth Route Army Office

Norman Bethune stayed here briefly. He worked with the 8th army and died in China in 1939.

The Eighth Route Army has established offices in many cities in China, and the Xi'an office was the first to be established and the responsibility is the greatest. At that time, the Eighth Route Army in Xi'an office sent a large number of anti-war materials and progressive youth to Yan'an, but also for our party propaganda anti-war claims to do a lot of work. More than 70 years later, the Eighth Route Army Office has basically kept its original state, set up a memorial hall, through a large number of precious historical artifacts and pictures, to show people the hard and outstanding history. It is a good patriotism education base.

The Memorial Hall of the Eighth Route Army Office in Xi’an is open to the public for free. This is my second visit here. The Office of the Eighth Route Army is a patriotism education base and a place where new party members from many units swear an oath. From the secret traffic station at the end of the Red Army’s Long March to the Eighth Route Army office during the Anti-Japanese War, until the Second Civil Revolutionary War was forced to close, it has existed for 10 years. It raised supplies for the Red Army and the Eighth Route Army, rescued the Red Army’s commanders and soldiers, and transported progress. The youth made indelible contributions to revolutionary causes such as Yan'an.

The former site of the Office of the Eighth Route Army in Xi’an was in Baxianzhuang near Anyuanmen in Xi’an. It was bought in the name of Dr. Ma Haibo, a German dentist. After the Xi'an Incident, it became the main liaison office of the Red Army. Many leaders of the Chinese Communist Party have worked here. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the civil war broke out and the office was also cancelled. It is now the third batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
