Xiaoyao Town is located in southwestern Xihua County in Zhoukou. It was built during the Jian'an Period of the Eastern Han Dynasty. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it became an important commercial port connecting the upper and lower reaches of the Shahe River. Alongside of Luohe, Zhoukou and Jieshou, it was also considered to be one of the “four major ports” of the Shahe River. Near the town, there is still a ferry crossing the Shahe River. The old iron boat and bamboo rafts which are used even today retain the traces of history's stories. Xiaoyao Town is very famous for its spicy Hula soup.
