Shenzhen Xianhu Fossil Forest was built in 1997, covering more than 30 mu, and more than 400 wood fossils stand to form fossil forest landscape. These wood fossils are mainly imported from Liaoning, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and other places. Wood fossils are also called siliconized wood, which is a fossilized tree branch. In the Mesozoic Jurassic, 150 million years ago, due to crustal movement or volcanic eruption, ancient forests were buried by sediment gravel or volcanic lava, and the organic matter in the trees gradually replaced silica, forming the same siliconized wood as stone. Although the tree has become a fossil, its external morphology and internal structure still retain the characteristics of the tree, providing scientific basis for studying plant evolution, environmental change and climate change. At present, this is the only fossil forest in the world preserved in relocation.

The fossil forest has been under construction since 1997, covering an area of 20,000 square meters, collecting and introducing more than 500 siliconized wood from Liaoning, Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia. These siliconized wood have been identified by experts as pine and fir plants, forming in the Mesozoic period of 150 million to 70 million years. It was the most prosperous period in the history of the evolution of cone plants, when tall trees were buried under the formation due to intense crustal movement, and the fossils that were now seen were siliconized.
