New Sand Island is located in the eastern part of Xuwen County, Leizhou Peninsula. Initially, it hid itself under the sea, except when the ebb tide revealed a long sandbank. Later, due to the tidal action, the sand bar surfaced to form an island, thus called the New Sand Island. Because it looks like a bucket, it is commonly known as the Bucket Sand Island. The island is rich in trees and beautiful nature. It is a famous island for sea birds in the Leizhou Peninsula. In particular, around May and June, sea birds gather on the island to lay eggs. The eggs in each sand nest are of different colors, different sizes, and very lovely. This has become the highlight of the island's ecology, adding fun to the ecological tours.
