What people are saying:

[Wangjiaping Revolutionary Site] It’s very dry in the afternoon. It is recommended to bring an umbrella. The temperature difference between day and night in Yan'an is really great. Wearing a long-sleeved thick coat in the morning is still cold, and wearing a long-sleeved in the afternoon feels hot. 1. Picture 2 is the auditorium. Mao Zedong's victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan in 1945 was where the meeting was held. Here you can go to the front table and take a picture. 2. Picture 3 is where Lin Biao recuperated. 3. Picture 4 is the conference room where Mao Zedong made the decision to leave Yan'an and move to northern Shaanxi. 4. Picture 5 is the former residence of Mao Zedong. Mao Zedong moved here from Zaoyuan in 1946. The tiled house is connected to two cave dwellings, one cave dwelling and one room. The tiled house is part of a corridor, and there is a bathroom at the end. Figure 5 shows one of the cave dwellings. 5. After Mao Anying came back from studying abroad, he chatted with Mao Zedong on the stone chair in front of his residence, and finally decided to go to the labor university, which is to go to the countryside to reclaim wasteland. Later, he died when he resisted U.S. aggression and aid to Korea. He was only 28 years old. There is a photo of Mao Zedong and Mao Anying in front of Mao Zedong's former residence. The background is the air-raid shelter in Figure 6. There are three types of cave dwellings according to their materials: stone kilns, brick kilns, and earth kilns. The earth kilns are located in the mountains. The cave dwellings on the air-raid shelter are earth kilns. 6. Figure 7 is the inside of the air-raid shelter. 7. Continue down to the former residence of Zhou Enlai in Figure 8. 8. Next, you will see a shop selling special paper-cuts. Here are 5 yuan a piece of red paper bookmark of Figure 9 that can be pasted on the window, and 30 yuan a piece of straw painting made of corn stalks. 9. Walk along the path and come to Taoyuan, which is a place like a small square. There is a stage where people will perform waist dances, but the performances are normal and there is no reward.

Additional Information

The Wangjiaping Revolutionary Site is located in the northwestern part of Yan'an just across the Yanhe River from the city. During World War II, after the Central Party Committee relocated to Yan'an, the military committee and military headquarters based here led the army and the people in the area throughout the eight years of the war of resistance against Japanese aggression. After the Japanese surrender, it was from this base that a full-scale offensive was led against the Kuomintang reactionaries. When the Kuomintang occupied Yan'an, some of the buildings here were destroyed. They were later repaired to look exactly as they had before the Kuomintang occupation. The best places to visit are the military committee auditorium, the combat room, and the former residences of Mao Zedong, Zhu De and Peng Dehuai.
