Longqing Gorge
Dragon Gorge (also called Longqing Canyon) has crystal clear waters and beautiful mountain scenery. The Dragon Gorge is located 85 kilometers northwest of downtown Beijing and 20 kilometers north of the Badaling Great Wall. The gorge is a seven-kilometer karst-type canyon through which the Gucheng River flows. This place represents the grandeur and typical view of North China with a gentle touch of views of South China.
"Longqing" is the name of the valley in Chinese. The history of the name goes back to the Yuan Dynasty. Emperor Renzong of the Yuan Dynasty was born in the village of Xiangshuiyuan (Fragrant Garden - Xiangshuiyuan) near the gorge. After his ascension to the throne, Jinshan County, where the village was located, was proclaimed Longqing District.
In 1980, the Gucheng River was dammed, resulting in the Gucheng Reservoir. Now tourists can climb this dam on an escalator 258 meters long. The height of the dam is 72 meters - it is one of the highest in Northern China. Construction of the escalator began in October 1994 and ended in April 1996. It was a joint investment of 35 million yuan from China and Hong Kong. The escalator itself is made in the form of a dragon, from which it received the name Soaring Dragon. At one time, he even got into the Guinness Book of Records as the largest dragon in Asia.
After climbing to the top of the dam, you can arrange a tour of the reservoir on a boat. The length of the excursion route is about four kilometers. At the same time, the width of the river in different segments ranges from 10 to 50 meters. The mountains on both sides are not very high, but they are incredibly beautiful and artificially ennobled.

#triplocal It was a short trip to mountains in Beijing suburbs. one day is more than enough to visit that place. Road takes at around 3 hours (during National holidays). Beautiful nature, nice views! Entrance ticket is 40 rmb. There are many variants of different activities there, like boat trip (100 rmb), cable cars (50 rmb round trip), sliding (30 rmb) etc. Worth to visit.

This gorge is amazing! Absolutely beautiful scenery! There’s a sky lift, and you can hike all the way to the top of the mountain! I highly recommend a visit! #longqinggorge

5 Things to Know Before Going to Beijing
5 Things to Know Before Going to Beijing
I look forward to winter in Beijing the most, walking through the hutongs with a smoky aroma, eating candied haws and watching people come and go in the hutongs.
1️⃣Transportation tips: Direct flight from Shanghai to Beijing, 300 yuan. Beijing has Beijing Capital Airport and Daxing Airport. The Capital Airport is closer to the city, recommended. You can reach the city area by 3 subway stations.
2️⃣Accommodation tips: I like Xicheng District, which has a very old Beijing feel. There are many quadrangles here. I live in a hutong on Yan Dai Xie Street, the feeling of an old courtyard, and I can chat with the old men when I go out in the morning. 250 yuan per night.
3️⃣Tour tips: Tiananmen, Forbidden City, Jingshan Park, Yan Dai Xie Street, Nanluoguxiang, Bird's Nest, Water Cube, Badaling Great Wall.
This route is very suitable for friends who are visiting Beijing for the first time. Tiananmen and the Forbidden City are together, and you need to queue up to enter. The Forbidden City ticket is 40 yuan.
Jingshan Park is a hillside park overlooking the panoramic view of the Forbidden City, with a good view, recommended. The ticket is 2 yuan.
Yan Dai Xie Street and Nanluoguxiang are both centuries-old historical districts. Many famous hutongs are here, where celebrities gather and there are many snacks and delicacies.
The Bird's Nest and Water Cube, take subway line 8, get off at the Olympic Sports Center, the ticket is 78 yuan.
The Badaling Great Wall, the ticket starts at 35 yuan, the Great Wall is in the suburbs, and it takes a day to visit.
4️⃣Food tips:
Recommend Baozang Roast Duck Restaurant, Liu's Restaurant, it's crispy and can be dipped in white sugar. About 200 yuan for one, and there are many Beijing special dishes.
Qixun Baizhao Hutong Cuisine, Beijing cuisine in the old hutong, retro style, recommended almond tofu. Average 100 yuan per person.
Huguo Temple Snacks, a must-visit halal snack shop in Beijing, with baked buns, pea yellow, donkey rolls, etc. Average 20 yuan per person.
5️⃣S2 train tips: The S2 train is a beautiful sightseeing train route, and it is also the most cost-effective transportation from the city to the Great Wall. The starting station is Huangtudian Station to Yanqing Station, passing through Nankou Station and Badaling Station. The round trip to the Great Wall is 14 yuan.
The Great Wall of Badaling: A Mark of History, A Treasure of Humanity
On the vast land of our motherland, the Great Wall of Badaling is like a giant dragon, winding on the continuous mountains, witnessing the vicissitudes and glory of history. As a tourist, I stepped on this magnificent ancient city wall with full of awe and curiosity, trying to explore the story and meaning behind it.
I chose to go to the Great Wall of Badaling by Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed rail on a clear morning in winter. When the train slowly left Beijing North Station, the scenery outside the window gradually became vast and broad. Soon, I arrived at the Great Wall of Badaling Station. The platform is about 1.8 kilometers away from the scenic area. You can choose to walk or take a free shuttle bus to the entrance of the scenic area. I chose to walk, wanting to feel the atmosphere of this ancient place more authentically.
Entering the scenic area, the first thing that caught my eye was the tall and solid enemy towers. They are distributed on the ridge in a staggered manner, as if showing the grandeur and craftsmanship of ancient engineering. I walked along the city wall and felt the heaviness and solemnity of history. Every stone, every brick seam, tells the vicissitudes and changes of the years.
The majesty and danger of the Great Wall of Badaling reminded me of ancient wars and frontier scenery. This was an important channel of the ancient Silk Road and a battleground for the military. Standing on the Great Wall, I seemed to feel the hardship and tenacity of the ancients when they built this great project. They used their hands and wisdom to create this world-class miracle, which is admired and admired by later generations.
I stayed on the Great Wall for nearly three hours. Although the cold wind was biting, the excitement and emotion in my heart made me forget the cold. I marvel at the magnificence of nature and the depth of history, and I am also moved by those who silently contribute to the protection of the Great Wall. When I left, my heart was full of respect and emotion. This unforgettable journey gave me a deeper understanding and experience of the Great Wall of Badaling.
The Great Wall of Badaling is a memory of history and a treasure of human civilization. It teaches us to cherish history, respect culture, and draw strength and wisdom from it. As a Chinese, I am proud to have such a great historical relic, and I hope more people can come here to feel the charm and power of history.
Autumn in Badaling
The autumn wind is bleak, and it takes half an hour to get to Badaling from Qinghe Railway Station early in the morning. After a short rest and breakfast, we started to visit the scenic area. Climbing up, I feel relaxed and happy, and my mind travels thousands of miles. I admire the greatness of the ancients. They left valuable wealth for future generations. The mountains are overlapping, and the red leaves are flying. All kinds of troubles disappear like smoke in thin air. It took about 3 hours to finish climbing, and I didn't take the cable car, but walked back. In the afternoon, I strolled around and bought some Yanqing apples, which are produced in Zhangjiaying, Yanqing. It is said that they taste good, they are geographical indication products, let the children taste them.
Winter Visit to Badaling Great Wall 🇨🇳 ❄️
#timetotravel
🗓️ January 19, 2023
🇨🇳 ❄️ A trip to China wouldn't be complete without seeing the Badaling Great Wall, even in winter. During my vacation, my friends and I braved the cold, but the freezing temperatures led us to modify our plans. We settled for photos from the first level. The views were breathtaking, starting from the bus ride to Badaling.
🚌 Getting There: We took a public bus from downtown, which was both cost-effective and convenient.
😔 Though we didn't complete the full climb, the Great Wall's grandeur left a lasting impression. I plan to return under better weather conditions for the full experience.

Easiest Section of the Great Wall 🇨🇳
#timetotravel
I am fortunate enough to have visited 3 differents sections of the Great Wall of China. Whenever I visited Beijing I always made sure that I explore a different part of this massive and impressive work of the Chinese people. Wherever you look is just spectacular and breathtaking. This section is the most visited section of the great wall as it is the closest to Beijing. It is only an hour away so a lot of tourists opt to go here insted. It is the most commercialized and the most restored too but there are a lot of areas that have been preserved as well. I often think of the people who built this magnificent structure that has become one of the most protected heritage in the world. It is mind blowing to be completely honest. We took a tour package that included the other tourist spots in Beijing so we didn't have to worry on how to get here by ourselves but if you are going to make you way there then it is easy. From Beijing North Railway Station to Badaling Great Wall Railway Station. Yes, you can reach this fascinating place in just 30 minutes by high speed trains. Enjoy your trip to the Great Wall.

China must do
The Badaling section of the Great Wall in China is an iconic and well-preserved segment that offers a glimpse into the country's rich history. Its impressive architecture, with fortified walls and watchtowers, stands as a testament to ancient defensive strategies. While often crowded due to its popularity, the panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes are breathtaking and provide an unforgettable experience. Visitors can walk along the undulating path, exploring the architectural marvel and imagining the historical significance it holds. However, the heavy foot traffic and commercialization might detract from the authenticity for some. Overall, Badaling remains a must-visit cultural and historical site.

Ice Lantern Festival & Yongning Ancient City
Head over to Ice Lantern Festival at Longqing Gorge,
Known as the “Little Three Gorges of the Yangtze River” or “Little Li River”, Longqing Gorge is the venue for the annual Beijing Longqing Gorge Ice and Snow Festival. It is also called Longqing Gorge Ice Lantern Festival. The festival features ice lanterns, huge ice and snow sculptures, and entertainment areas.
As usual, every year the theme of the festival is different.
Yongning Yongning Ancient City | Lvzu Temple
Pass through the east of Yongning Yuhuang Pavilion, and there is a Lvzu Temple in the courtyard of Shancheng Restaurant. The temple has sculptures and murals (new colors), and the back wall murals from left to right are Han Zhongli, Lü Dongbin, Cao Guojiu, Han Xiangzi, Lan Caihe, He Xiangu, Zhang Guolao, Tieguai Li, and the gable murals tell the story of the Eight Immortals.
🟡Yongning Lvzu Temple
Built during the Ming Dynasty, it was originally part of the Ming Dynasty's Yongning Chaotian Palace and was rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty. In the back courtyard, there are statues of the Eight Immortals, and during the third national cultural relics survey, only the main hall remained, and the murals were unrecognizable. It has been repaired later.
🟡Now only the main hall remains, facing north to south with a width of three bays, a large ridge, four hanging ridges, and hard mountain tube tiles; Qing Dynasty architectural style.
🟡Features:
❶ The purlins in the middle of the roof are original, which can be compared with the surrounding colored paintings;
❷ The north wall has a large mural, and the east and west walls have 64 small murals;
❸ There are strip patterns with hidden Eight Immortals under the pedestal;
❹ An interesting couplet: 'To those destined, I do not wait in vain to see through the eyes; to attain the supreme path, one only needs to stand firm.';
❺ Yongning Lvzu Temple is a cultural relic registered in the survey by Yanqing District.
Quanzhou Yongning Wei | A seaside Minnan original ecological ancient city worth visiting~
Yongning Wei, also known as Yongning Ancient City, is actually a small seaside town. Due to its unique location, it once bore the responsibility of resisting pirates. Now, it has become a tourist attraction, but it is quite niche with few visitors.
Residents in the ancient city live their days peacefully, with the Southeast's foremost Wealth God Temple, as well as an extremely large and exquisitely beautiful City God Temple. There are also ancestral halls and Mazu temples, and even homestays.
As the year-end approaches, restaurants and coffee shops are all closed, so there is no place to dine, and one can only take a quick tour before leaving.
🌟 Highlights:
Very original, without a commercial vibe, and no admission fee!
🚉 Travel Tips:
An hour's drive from downtown Quanzhou
🗓 Itinerary:
Luojia Temple - Shili Golden Coast - Yongning Wei, all are close by
Yongning Ancient Town in Yanqing | The ancient murals of Sanyi Temple on Heping Street
Now, Sanyi Temple is easy to find, completely 'exposed' on the street corner.
Heping Street Sanyi Temple was originally built during the Ming dynasty and rebuilt in the Qing dynasty, but has become dilapidated over the years.
The main hall of the temple has three rooms, facing east with the back to the west. The temple's roof is covered with yellow and green glazed tiles, indicating a high status. It is currently the only ancient building with a colored glazed tile roof in Yanqing District. There used to be a well in front of Sanyi Temple, but it was later sealed (where the tap is now).
On the east and west sides of the gable walls on both sides, there are brick carvings, finely crafted, with patterns of the Eight Immortals, said to be relics of the temple.
Sanyi Temple mainly worships the three sworn brothers known for their loyalty and righteousness from the Peach Garden: Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei.
On the north and south gable walls, there are still murals related to the Three Kingdoms theme. It is said that each wall is painted with three rows of murals, eight murals per row, each mural depicting a story, with the name of the story written on it, totaling 48 stories on both walls. The murals on the north side (right side) gable wall are still relatively intact; the murals on the south side (left side) gable wall are severely damaged.
The era to which the murals belong has not yet been identified, but based on the color and style, they may belong to the Ming dynasty murals.
