What people are saying:

Yinchuan Gunzhongkou, commonly known as Xiaokouzi, is located at the eastern foot of Helan Mountain about 35 kilometers northwest of Yinchuan City. It is surrounded by mountains on three sides and the mountain pass opens eastward on the Yinchuan Plain. Gunzhongkou was one of Helan's scenic spots in ancient times, and it is now a good place for summer vacations and leisure tours in Ningxia. During the Xixia Dynasty, Li Yuanhao, the king of Xixia, once built a large-scale shelter palace in the ravine. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there was a lot of construction work, temples and pavilions were built here, and most of them were destroyed. Most of the sights that can be visited in the scenic area are newly built now, mainly including the Folklore Museum, the Mosque, Guandi Temple, the White Pagoda on the top of the mountain and the ruins of the Li Yuanhao Palace. It is said that this was once the residence of the warlord Ma Hongkui. Tickets for the scenic spot are 40 yuan, and the transportation is 10 yuan.

In the early spring, the scenery is exceptionally beautiful. In addition to ancient rock paintings, Gunzhong Pass has several Qing-era buildings, along with the palace of the warlord Ma Hongjun from the Republican era. The natural scenery here is also exceptional. A mosque stands at the northwestern side of Gunzhong Pass. It is a quiet, meditative place with a small courtyard.
