Mountain
Temple
139***13Gaer Temple is located in Nangqian County, Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. It is located on a high mountain with an altitude of more than 3,700 meters. It is divided into Shangsi and Xiasi. The north side of the mountain is full of strange peaks and cliffs, and the cold wind is steep, but the south side is slightly sloped and warm and sunny. Hundreds of buildings in the Ga'er Temple are irregularly distributed on the big hillside south of the mountain, from bottom to top, to the top of the mountain. The Gaer Temple has a history of nearly 1,000 years. It is said that Master Padmasambhava once practiced in this town more than 700 years ago. The treasure of Zhensi is a pair of peculiar prayer wheels. Legend has it that Princess Wencheng brought her dowry when she went to Tibet to marry Songtsan Gambo. During this long period of time, the pair of prayer wheels placed in the upper monastery of the Gaer Monastery were rotated by two lamas on duty day and night. The constantly spinning prayer wheel accompanies the Tibetans in the depths of the plateau to pass through the wind and rain. The mountain peaks around the Ga'er Temple have different shapes and different poses, some are like balls, some are like pillars, some are like doors, some are like walls, and some rocks are like various animals. There are fewer trees on the top of the mountain as a whole, and it is amazing to run into a few trees occasionally. These weather-beaten strong pines and cypresses, a tree with unique shape, graceful posture, vigorous branches and leaves, and strong character, survive tenaciously in the slits of strange stones, fully demonstrating the beauty of life in nature. There are also the colorful prayer flags flying in the wind, draped all over the mountain, winding everywhere, one after another, until the top of the mountain. Looking around from the upper temple of the Gaer Temple, I saw the mountains become lower, the woods are far away, the road is like a snake dance, the house is like a box, the water is like a mirror, and the cloud is like a stream of smoke. The Gaer Temple is relatively remote. There are only 10 families around it. Except for the monks, few people come here. Ga'er Temple currently has three living Buddhas. Because the monks in the monastery have been pursuing the ideas of great compassion and equality of life advocated by Buddhism, the monks have been living in harmony with the animals in the mountains for many years and never killed them. There are macaques, stone sheep, roe deer, yellow sheep, sika deer, elk, foxes, wolves, snow leopards and many other higher animals, as well as nearly a hundred species of birds such as snow pheasants, pheasants, golden pheasants, eagles, vultures, and owls. On the 76-kilometer journey from Nangqian to Gaer Temple, there are concentrated alpine pastures, ancient salt ponds, virgin forests, and forest streams. The most rare part is the rare canyon forest landscape on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. From Nangqian, follow National Highway 214 to 1024 kilometers and turn south into the gravel road to Baizha Forest Farm, continue on Highway 25, and then go west to enter Balonggou (also known as Gaer Temple Canyon), about 15 kilometers Drive to the end of the canyon. The road to the Gaer Temple is rugged and difficult to navigate, and it is even more difficult to navigate on frequent rainy days in summer, so it is best to drive an off-road vehicle. If you want to appreciate the culture and customs of Gaer Temple, appreciate the nearby natural scenery, and have close contact with wild animals, you need to stay in the local area. Accommodation can be borrowed in Bamai Township, not far from entering Baronggou, or in a house that is idle in the monastery.
