The Fukuoka Christmas Market is considered one of the largest Christmas markets in Japan. Spanning multiple venues, it's technically more than one market. The miniature Christmas town displays lights, Christmas trees, decorations, and sells hot drinks and food. The Light Street illuminations and market are open from November 1st to December 25th. By 2025, approximately 120 shops are expected to open! From Hakata to Tenjin, Nakasu, and Momochihama, the city is engulfed in light, music, and warmth. Under the theme of "A Christmas that Engages All Five Senses," the event focuses on light, sound, and art. Enjoy the street illuminations, stroll through the Christmas markets, and experience a romantic evening mingling with opera and pop music.

TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) is set to arrive in Japan, bringing their ACT: TOMORROW world tour to Japanese stages. Following their initial performances in Seoul and a major tour across North America, members Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Huening Kai are ready to showcase their spectacular performances in Japan. On July 21st, they released their fourth album, "The Star Chapter: TOGETHER," which marks the beginning of this tour. The tour name "ACT: TOMORROW" perfectly embodies TXT's unique identity as "stage storytellers," renowned for combining narrative storytelling with stunning stage performances and immersive live experiences.

The Haunted House Festival at Daizenji Tamada Shrine is held on the final day of the Onimusha (ghost festival), which runs from New Year's Eve to January 7th. With over 1600 years of history, it is one of Japan's three major fire festivals and has been designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. Six giant torches, reportedly the largest in Japan, burn brightly as hundreds of naked young devotees carry them on lanterns (kalimata) in a vibrant and courageous New Year's celebration around the temple. Bathing in the flames is believed to bring health and prosperity, and the festival throngs with people praying for peace, protection from misfortune, and good fortune.

The most vibrant event at the shrine is the "New Year's Grand Festival" around January 10th. Symbolizing good fortune and prosperity, the festival attracts approximately one million visitors annually to worship and purchase amulets, rakes, and lucky baskets. Higashiebisu Shrine, about a 10-minute drive from Hakata Station, enshrines the god Ebisu. At the festival entrance, there are about 300 stalls where visitors can sample Hakata's local delicacies. The festival begins with Hatsuebisu on January 8th, followed by Welcoming Ebisu, the Grand Festival, and Motoebisu, lasting four days and featuring various activities such as raffles and lucky draws.

The Tamaseri Festival is a traditional festival during the Hakata New Year season, held on the afternoon of January 3rd at Hakozaki Shrine to predict a bountiful harvest and abundant fishing year. "Seseri" means "touching" or "competition," and that's exactly what the participants, dressed in loincloths, do! They are divided into land teams (farmers) and sea teams (fishermen), and then scramble for two balls weighing 8 kilograms (about 18 pounds) while being doused with cold water.

The Yanagawa Hinami Festival auspicious ornaments are a decorative custom that originated in Yanagawa, Fukuoka Prefecture, conveying wishes for health and good relationships for girls. Red and white cloth are wrapped around bamboo rings to make seven ornaments, each with seven threads, which are then wrapped around two Yanagawa balls in the center. A total of 51 ornaments symbolize an ancient tradition in which people believe that the normal life span is 50 years and wish for an extra year of life. The Yanagawa Hinami Festival is held from February to April, during which time there are a number of events including a doll festival and the Water Doll Parade, an event where paper dolls are floated down the river.
