Did you know that the story of Dracula was said to be very much influenced by Bram Stoker's time spent in the town of Monaghan? He visited Monaghan courthouse as a court clerk of Petty Sessions, and the courthouse is situated next to St. Patrick's Church. The church houses a relief scultpture which depicts Warner William Westenra (Lord Rossmore) saying goodbye to his wife Mary Anne on her deathbed. Stoker was said to have been inspired to write his 1897 novel by this emotive piece of art and if you see it, you'll understand why. What better place to celebrate Dracula than right outside the Courthouse and St. Patrick's Church in our brand new town square with family fun and theatre happening free of charge from 2pm onwards, followed by the ticketed Dracéilí in the ballroom of the Westenra Arms Hotel (the actual original town house of the Westenra family who Stoker obviously spent time with as the leading lady character in Dracula is Lucy Westenra. It is too unusual of a surname to be a coincidence). Doors open at 9pm. Join us for a Champain Reception followed by support from Guerrilla Sound Cannon (DJ & Audio Visual Show) followed by main act, The Deadlians, a Dublin band with a cult following known for their punky celtic folky rock energetic tunes. They are sure to get the craic going and the blood flowing (much to any vampires delight). The night will come to close with theatre and DJing as we embark on DJ Nauti_Gal’s Dark Water Voyage.Not sure what you are in for? Neither are we, but only one way to find out!
