Van der Valk Hotel Haarlem Reviews

The hotel has a luxurious appearance, the employees are very friendly and despite the fact that we arrived an hour earlier, a room was already available. The room and bathroom were neat and clean. The mattresses and pillows were firm, just the way I like them. In addition, there were plenty of free parking spaces. The bus stop for the bus to the center is very close, ideal! The service in the hotel bar could be better. There was no regard for the guests who came in, they were not welcomed and you had to beckon a waiter yourself to get a drink. In addition, we had to wait quite a long time for our drink. Ambiance is fine.

It was great again as always!

We did an emergency dash to see an elderly relative leaving on Christmas Day evening & driving through the night, to see them on Boxing Day morning, so we were very glad we were allowed to check in a little early after our visit, so we could get some sleep. We were also pleased that the chef prepared us a meal for dinner that we had in the bar, when the hotel was holding a Festive Buffet & a 5 course dinner for 100's of people due to it being Christmas.

Great hotel. Location was good, bus terminal was short walk out the front of the hotel. Would stay there again.

The property was new and generally clean but attention to detail is lacking. Wash cloths limited or unavailable even upon request. Tea/coffee/sugar not replenished over a six-day stay. Room not adequately clean, trash not removed, and cleaning items left in the room.

We enjoyed our stay at the van der Valk Hotels very much, excellent service, friendly staff, cleanliness 10+, we will definitely refer friends and family when they make plans to visit Holland to van der Valk Hotels.

Great hotel, close to city center and marvelous breakfast to start your day with a smile

Very Kind Service , Bike Leasing is Perfect and the Location of the Hotel is very close to Haarlems City. When arriving by car there are plenty of spots in Front of the Hotel to park. We will visit the Hotel again for sure.

We stay here a lot as we have elderly family in NL nearby, on our visit this time we thought we'd stop at the van der Valk we had our wedding night in 29yrs ago. So in comparison: the rooms were similar, the other vdV hotel had a better & nicer looking selection of toiletries (now wishing I'd taken more photos) they had an information book on the desk about the hotel in both Dutch & English, & a note pad & pen, Haarlem has neither. I didn't pick up the free magazine at the other hotel as I thought I'd pick it up in Haarlem, except they have completely different magazines. Now as we've stayed at this hotel many times over the last 5yrs, we've noticed many cut backs - you used to have a minibar fridge in the room that you could put food in that we may have bought, to keep it fresh but they have been turned off due to power costs. You used to be able to to watch UK & USA tv channels, not any more, they have cut paying for those. Last year they told us the antenna was being fixed, obviously still waiting. Now to breakfast, this is where Haarlem on balance just won out, they have a greater selection on offer, although I would note that it has gone down over the last few years, you used to Krenten bollen (fruit buns) not now, the jam was in jars, now its now pump action into small dish, there is no cream cheese to go with smoked salmon, juices have also suffered the squeeze of 'cost of living crisis' but still love that I can have a glass of prosecco at breakfast.

Easy access, clean property, fantastic friendly staff. Could use better storage, space for clothing. Hotel restaurant has fantastic food.

The Van der Valk hotel was a great hotel for our family of 5. We stayed in the family suite with 2 bunk beds and 1 King. Very large and very nice. The toilet was separate from the shower / tub abs sinks which was nice and the beds and pillows were very confortable. Probably the nicest beds and pillows we’ve had our entire Europe trip of 5 countries. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is great, but is outside of downtown Haarlem, which is the quaint and lovely part of town. Uber cost me around €10 per trip to get to there (or the main station). It’s a great hotel, but if you’re in Haarlem on tourism, planning on traveling to Amsterdam on a daily basis, it’s not a good option.
