The Beverley Hotel Queen West, Sonder

Found this spot for a downtown stay and was so impressed by the location. It's perfectly situated for exploring downtown Toronto and the Entertainment District. The staff are wonderful and very welcoming. If you’re looking for a central stay at a very good price point, this is the best choice!

There is no reception. Everything is online. This was not clear when booked. Access is either via a set of stairs or an ancient, very confined and exceptionally slow elevator which is accessed via the cafe on the ground floor. There are no keys. Your room is accessed by a key-code punched into the door lock. Again this is accessed online. The same code is required for access to the building when the cafe is closed and the door at each level. The room we had was small. No cats were harmed as there was not room to swing one. We had a window onto the graffiti covered fire escape. As there was no room safe this added to our security worries. The sink is in the main room and has no plug. It refused to drain until I used the palm of my hand, plunger like, to create a clearing suction. This was not a singular occurance. Towels are hung on a rack above the toilet, so if you neglected to put the seat fully down there was a danger of your towel dropping in the pan. Quite a thing as the room was not serviced once in our 4 night stay. The bottom sheet was marked. Thankfully it was warm and we could sleep on the top sheet with the duvet as a cover. The toilet itself is behind a glass panel and sliding door that does not fully cover the gap. So you had better be comfortable watching and listening to your other half having a poo. There was no chair in our room so I ended up sitting on the loo with the seat down. You can hear what is going on in all the rooms around you. The shower is good and powerful but there is no extraction, so the condensation and humidity goes into the room. I was not in any of the other rooms on the floor, but I suspect from the building layout that most do not have a window. The mattress was comfortable enough but the pillows were soft to non-existent. The location is excellent but there are proper hotels nearby with full facilities for not a lot more.

We had a great 2 night stay at Sonder Beverly hotel! They recently had a change in management but the team running the hotel has been very helpful and flexible with the changes and made sure their guests are able to have a pleasant stay! Right in the middle of amazing restaurants, retail, and local coffee shops. Our room was on the 3rd floor facing the street where we can see the excitement and hustle of the local neighborhood we’re in. Our room was the Queen deluxe and it came with the amenities as mentioned on the website, the indoor fridge and blow dryer was definitely a win! I’d like to give a shoutout to RJ, Ruby, and the team managing this hotel, they have been very kind, helpful, and made sure we had a great experience. Will definitely be staying here again when we come visit Toronto in the near future!

The space is nice with a large bathroom and shower. Comfortable bed. Two suggestions for improvement: 1) the faucet in the bathroom sink flows with a dribble… very little pressure. Shower is fine. 2) the flatscreen TV is both non functional and a hazard for banging your head at night. Suggest moving or removing completely. Otherwise, we found unit 41 comfortable and good value with 4th floor view of Queen St. W.

We stayed for 3 nights in March 2025. It was exactly what we expected, it was clean and perfect for two albeit being small. We were in a double room with a window. We were staying here intending only to sleep/shower. If you're looking for a stay to lounge in this probably wouldn't be the place for you. It is beautifully located with everything in your vicinity. There is a coffee shop in the same space as the hotel (the main door opens up to both the coffee shop, different company, and the stairs to the hotel) which is super convenient too and makes the place all the more charming.

Wouldn’t call this a hotel exactly. Everything is done through the app and there’s no reception. You get codes to enter hallway and room. All communications the app chat. The entrance and elevator is shared with a restaurant, which means noise and smell travel up, entrance to hallways is possible for all during the restaurant business hours, and elevator only available from 8am-8pm. Room was clean but shower not that much, also broken tiles. There’s no safe, and on the last day there were no hot water.
