Changle travel guide and discussion

Stepping into Fuzhou Changle International Airport (📍 Changle, Fuzhou, Fujian, China), I was instantly vibing with the warm glow from the iconic sign: "Travel heals the heart, and so does good food." Honestly, could there be a better motto for kicking off an adventure in Fuzhou? From the jump, every corner is sprinkled with thoughtful design and pure local energy. Let’s talk eye candy — the absolute must-see is this breathtaking wooden model of a classic Fuzhou sailing ship, standing tall right in the center of the Domestic Departures hall. It’s a total shoutout to the city’s legendary maritime history. Next to it, you can’t miss an artistic wall mural that's got all the vibes: dreamy ink-wash landscapes plus playful, cartoonish historical figures. It's like walking straight into a history book — but way cuter! Navigating around? So easy! The airport is super spacious, bright, and full of chill energy, with clear signs pointing you to both Domestic Departures and International/HKG/MFM/TWN Departure areas. Even better, there’s loads to discover before your flight takes off: a 24/7 convenience store loaded with authentic Fuzhou snacks (hello, souvenir heaven!), and Fujian-style treasures perfect for last-minute gifting. I even spotted a self-serve flower vending machine — how adorable is that? — plus a Thai-style massage lounge for de-stressing, and lush green plants everywhere, keeping the vibes fresh and welcoming. This place is way more than just a travel stop. From the moment you walk in, Fuzhou Changle International Airport wraps you in the city’s warmth, flavor, and coastal glow. Literally the best first impression you could ask for in this seaside city! ✈️🌊✨ Fuzhou Changle International Airport – Address: Changle, Fuzhou, Fujian, China – Opening hours: 24/7

Weifang is beautiful, but I won’t be going back next time—here’s my honest experience Weifang is truly an underrated treasure city! It not only boasts the romance of the World Kite Capital but also carries the profound heritage of an ancient city with a thousand years of history. But honestly, I won’t be going back next time because the pace here is so comfortable that once you arrive, you just want to settle down—and my wallet really can’t handle it! 😭 1. Qingzhou Ancient City: A slow journey through a thousand years · Real experience: As one of the ancient Jiuzhou, the old streets and alleys here are exceptionally well preserved. Walking on the bluestone paths, flanked by Ming and Qing dynasty buildings, there’s absolutely no commercialized hustle and bustle. The rockeries and pavilions in Ouyuan Garden make for perfect shots with an ancient style vibe. · Tip to avoid trouble: The ancient city is quite large, so it’s recommended to wear comfortable shoes and take your time exploring. The snacks inside are very affordable, so you can eat as you walk. 2. Shihu Garden: The “Little Jiangnan” hidden in the North · Real experience: This garden really amazed me! Although it’s not very big, it has all the pavilions, rockeries, and flowing water you’d expect—completely like a northern version of the “Suzhou Gardens.” Especially in summer when the lotus flowers bloom, sitting in the pavilion drinking tea is just pure bliss. · Tip to avoid trouble: The garden is quite compact, so it’s best to avoid peak holiday times, or the crowds will seriously affect your experience. 3. Bailang River Wetland Park: The city’s natural oxygen bar · Real experience: This place is definitely Weifang’s “green lung”! Walking along the Bailang River, both banks are shaded by lush trees, and the air is unbelievably fresh. The park also features various small bridges, flowing water, and viewing platforms—perfect for relaxing on weekends. · Tip to avoid trouble: The park is very large, so if you want to see it all, renting a bike is recommended; otherwise, you’ll end up with tired legs. 4. Yangjiabu Folk Art Grand View Garden: The charm of intangible cultural heritage · Real experience: This is the hometown of kites and New Year paintings. You can watch master craftsmen making kites and paintings live, and even try printing yourself. The architecture in the Grand View Garden is also very distinctive, with an antique and charming style. · Tip to avoid trouble: If you come with children, be sure to keep an eye on them and don’t let them touch the exhibits casually. Food Hits and Misses (purely personal taste) · Hits: Chaotian Pot (meat wrapped in pancake, fragrant but not greasy), Weixian Radish (crispy and refreshing, a great palate cleanser), Rou Huoshao (crispy outside, tender inside, bursting with juice). · Misses: Gangzitou Huoshao (a bit hard in texture, not recommended for those with weak teeth), Mute Chili (strong flavor, not for everyone). Final Tips Weifang is really perfect for slow travel—no need to rush through attractions or stand in long lines. If you’re tired of the hustle and bustle of big cities, come here to experience a slower pace of life. But be sure to control your shopping urges because the local specialties here are just too good to resist!

Don't make a wasted trip! 2️⃣ Don't trust the "time-honored seafood restaurants" recommended by taxi drivers! Go to Beihai Road to pick your own live seafood and have it cooked! 3️⃣ Don't buy radishes at tourist spots! Go to Nanxiahe Market, where you can get a whole box of Weixian green radishes for CNY 5—crispy, sweet, and not spicy! 📸 Top 3 photo spots 1️⃣ Shihu Garden bamboo corridor (Wear white! The lighting is gorgeous) 2️⃣ Bohai Eye at sunset (Ferris wheel + orange sea) 3️⃣ 1532 Cultural Industry Park red brick wall (Wear sunglasses! Coolest look ever) 💬 Local insider tips "Go to People's Park at 6:00 AM to watch the grandpas play cricket fighting and chess—it's 100 times more interesting than the tourist attractions!" "The meat huoshao at the old Chenghuang Temple must be paired with tofu pudding, and you have to add the chili oil yourself!" 🔥 Final tip: You can ride the bus anywhere in Weifang for CNY 1! For accommodation, choose the area near Taihua City—you can stay in a loft for CNY 80 per person!

September in Weifang is truly incredible! 🍂 It's cool in the mornings and evenings, warm at midday—the crisp autumn air makes you want to just let loose! But I have to be honest here 📢 Some of these pitfalls were hard-learned lessons from my own experience. Read this before you go to save yourself a lot of trouble! 🏨 Let's start with accommodation—choosing the wrong location will ruin your trip. Take my advice: I don't recommend booking a hotel in the Binhai area! It looks close to the sea, but there are very few shops or supermarkets nearby. If you want a hot meal at night, you have to take a taxi back to the city center. It was a huge mistake 😭. Your first choice should be the Taihua City/Weifang Station area! I booked the Home Inn (Weifang Dongfeng Street Taihua City) on Trip.com. It's only an 86-meter walk to Century Taihua, 386 meters to Taihua City, and just over 400 meters to the Weifang World Kite Museum. At CNY 180–220/night, the value is unbeatable ✨. The Zhongxing Street Night Market is right downstairs—who doesn't love being able to grab a bowl of chicken and duck Hele noodles late at night when you're craving a snack? If you want something a bit more upscale, the Tuyue S Manyun Hotel (Weifang Station Taihua City) starts at CNY 254. It has smart toilets, projectors, and electric curtains. The couple/bestie rooms even have bathtubs—perfect for a girls' trip 💕. Remember to compare prices on Trip.com when booking. September isn't peak season yet, so the prices are great! 🥟 Food: Weifang locals really pour their heart and soul into their food. You have to start your morning with a Chenghuangmiao meat fire-baked bun! The crust is so crispy it crumbles, and one bite releases a burst of savory juice. Honestly, I could eat three of the CNY 5 Hanting fire-baked buns without stopping 🤣. Pair it with a bowl of tofu pudding, and you've got the soul of a Weifang breakfast. For lunch, head to Han Chongqing Chaotian Pot. A CNY 15 roll is packed with meat, and you get unlimited free bone broth—much better value than the CNY 88 set meals at tourist spots. But take it from me: if you don't eat spicy food, make sure to tell them "less spicy" when ordering! My friend who doesn't eat spicy food got greedy and added spice, and they were a teary-eyed mess on the spot 🌶️. For afternoon tea, grab a bowl of Nangong Hele. The CNY 20 non-heritage version comes with shredded chicken and duck over chewy noodles in a rich, savory broth. For a late-night snack, head to the Ronghua Road Night Market for some sesame sauce mixed vegetables and mustard chicken, then finish with a crisp, sweet Weixian radish—the saying "Yantai apples and Laiyang pears can't compare to Weixian radish skin" is no joke! 💡 Avoid these pitfalls: The "fresh live seafood" at the Taihua City Night Market is priced by weight, and the price doubles when you go to pay! If you want seafood, buy it yourself at the Nanshahe Market and take it to a restaurant to have it cooked for only CNY 10/dish. The money you save is enough for two more Chaotian Pot meals 💰. 🪁 Attraction recommendations: 3 days to see it all without rushing. Day 1: First impressions of the Kite Capital. In the morning, head straight to the Weifang World Kite Museum (Free! You can book on Trip.com). It's the world's largest kite-themed museum, and the giant dragon centipede kite is so majestic it leaves you speechless 😲. In the afternoon, visit Shihu Garden, a classic example of a northern miniature garden. Every step offers a new view of pavilions and ponds. Tickets are CNY 35, and it's 100% photogenic if you wear Hanfu 📸. In the evening, watch the Ming Dynasty city gate tower light up at Kuiwen Gate—the night view is breathtaking. Day 2: Intangible cultural heritage + ancient city. In the morning, go to the Hanting Yangjiabu Folk Art Garden (tickets CNY 50, or CNY 78.9 with a handmade kite experience). You can print woodblock New Year paintings and make your own kite to take home! This is much better than the CNY 80 kite souvenirs at tourist spots. You can buy the same ones at the Kuiwen Gate Kite Market for CNY 25, or even have an artisan customize one for you to mail home 📮. In the afternoon, take the high-speed train to Qingzhou (20 minutes, CNY 20). The Qingzhou Ancient City is free to explore. When the lanterns light up in the evening, the atmosphere is amazing. Tickets for Ouyuan Garden are CNY 20, and you can rent a traditional costume for CNY 20/set to really get into the vibe. Day 3: A natural finish. If you have time, go to Shimenfang to see the red leaves (the best in Qilu, adult tickets CNY 43). But honestly—there are tons of stairs. I wore flat shoes and my legs were shaking like a leaf by the time I got up and down. How stupid of me to wear the wrong shoes! 🥵 If you want something more relaxing, go to Bailang River Wetland Park to rent a kite and run around, or stroll through Fangci Town to photograph the old German-style buildings. It's a free district with a very artistic vibe. ⚠️ Travel tips: I've already made these mistakes for you. The temperature difference between morning and evening in Weifang in September is crazy, so you must pack a light jacket! I didn't bring one because I thought it would be a hassle, and I was freezing at Kuiwen Gate in the evening 🥶. For transportation, taxis in the city start at CNY 8–10, and the bus is super convenient if you use the Alipay ride code. For Yangjiabu, I recommend carpooling—it's more cost-effective than the bus. Shared electric scooters are CNY 3/30 mins, but don't ride them out of the Weicheng District, or they might lose power and you'll be stuck pushing them 😅. I don't recommend paying to go up the Bohai Eye Ferris wheel. The CNY 66 ticket is poor value, and they force you to pay for photos. Just taking pictures from a distance is beautiful enough. The World Kite Museum is closed on Mondays. Remember to check the opening hours on Trip.com before you go, so you don't end up like my friend who showed up excited only to find it closed—it was heartbreaking 🤦‍♀️. If there's a "Weifang Autumn Kite Carnival" at the end of September at the Anqiu World Kite Park, early bird tickets are CNY 29.9. You can see the World Sport Kite Championship, so don't miss it if you're in town! After 3 days, it cost about CNY 1,363 per person, and every penny was well spent 💸. Weifang is truly an underrated treasure of a city. The sky is filled with the freedom of kites, the ground is filled with the gentleness of old streets and alleys, and your mouth is filled with the warmth of local life—I'll definitely be back to pick persimmons and soak in the hot springs next time 🥰.

This seriously underrated treasure city has the sea, mountains, and an ancient town. Great food, great photo spots, and great places to explore. Here’s a detailed summer guide Ladies, just follow it and you won’t go wrong👇 · -- 🚗 Route plan (3 days 2 nights) Day 1: city culture line 🏛️ Head straight to the Weifang World Kite Museum in the morning, the world’s first kite-themed museum. It has over 1,300 kites from traditional to creative styles, plus you can DIY hand-paint a kite (material fee about 30 yuan). Then visit Shihu Garden, a rare compact garden in northern China and a filming location for Journey to the West. With pavilions, towers, small bridges, and flowing water, it’s known as the “Pearl of Eastern Shandong.” For lunch, try Taihua City Zhongxing Street for rou huoshao and Hele noodles, about 30 yuan per person to eat your fill. In the afternoon, go to Yangjiabu Folk Art Grand View Garden to try woodblock nianhua printing or kite making yourself. At dusk, head to the coast and ride the Bohai Eye Ferris wheel — the world’s tallest axle-less Ferris wheel, 145 meters high, overlooking where the Bailang River meets Bohai Bay. It’s best to arrive around 5:30 PM, ride the Ferris wheel first, then watch the sunset and lights come on. Every shot looks like a movie scene. At night, stroll the Taihua City night market for Chaotian pot pancakes with hot soup, full of local life vibes. Day 2: coastal fun line 🌊 Drive north for 1 hour to Happy Sea Beach, a 1,600-meter golden sandy beach with fine, soft sand. Barefoot on the sand, splashing waves, building sandcastles, and water fights — fun for all ages. Next to it is the Marine Fisheries Science and Innovation Museum, with a summer discount ticket for 25.9 yuan. For a fishing village experience, visit Longwei Tidal Flat Resort, bring a small bucket and shovel to dig for clams, flower clams, and catch little crabs — a hands-on gift from the sea. Students with exam admission tickets get free entry. For water fun, go to Hongrun Hot Spring Water World, with nearly 100 hot spring pools and over 20 water amusement projects. Day 3: ancient town and nature line ⛰️ Explore Qingzhou Ancient Town for free, with 2,200 years of history on its bluestone streets — perfect for ancient-style photos. The Qingzhou Museum is also worth a visit. If you have time, go to Yishan Scenic Area, a national 5A attraction with lush vegetation, a natural summer oxygen bar, plus high-altitude rafting and mountain slides. Weifang’s attractions are quite spread out (especially Qingzhou and the coast), so self-driving is the most convenient and efficient. The high-speed train to Weifang Station is close to the old town, while Weifang North Station has more frequent trains. 🍜 Food recommendations (just follow this) 🔥 Rou huoshao: the soul of Weifang breakfast! Wangji Rou Huoshao at Chenghuang Temple is a 40+ year-old shop, baked fresh in a clay charcoal oven. The crust is golden and crumbly, about 3 yuan each. Eat it hot! 🔥 Chaotian pot: Weifang’s signature dish with over 300 years of history. A big pot stews pork offal, sliced fresh by the chef and rolled in thin pancakes. Recommended is Han Chongqing Chaotian Pot, open for over 30 years and the locals’ favorite. About 30–40 yuan per person to eat your fill. 🔥 Ji Ya Hele: a Weifang specialty noodle dish with handmade chewy noodles and an eight-hour broth made from old hen and duck. Nangong Ji Ya Hele is a long-established shop from 1972. 🔥 Longsheng pastries (Qingzhou): a century-old Chinese brand, with honey cakes, sponge cakes, and square pastries all baked fresh daily. 🔥 Chenghuang Temple snack street: Weifang’s most concentrated snack area, lively from 6 AM to 9 PM. 🏨 Accommodation tips Recommended to stay near Shihu Garden in Weicheng District for proximity to attractions and many food options; or near Taihua Plaza in Kuiwen District for a bustling commercial area with convenient dining and shopping. For coastal trips, stay at a sea view hotel. 📸 Photo spots · Bohai Eye Ferris wheel: stunning river reflections at sunset and lights on · Fangci Town: century-old German-style architecture, vintage film vibe for easy photos · Qingzhou Ancient Town: bluestone streets and Ming-Qing architecture, perfect for ancient-style shots · Shihu Garden: exquisite northern garden with beautiful light and shadow effects · Bailang River Wetland Park: blooming lotus flowers in summer · Happy Sea Beach: sunsets by the sea always look great in photos ⚠️ Pitfall guide 1. Beware of low-cost tour groups! Online “3 days 2 nights for 699 yuan” tours are below cost and aggressively push expensive optional activities. Pay only to official accounts, don’t transfer privately. 2. Summer heat protection! Weifang is hot and humid in summer. Avoid outdoor activities from 10 AM to 4 PM. Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are essential. Drink plenty of water to prevent heatstroke. 3. Ferris wheel closed on Mondays! The Bohai Eye is closed for routine maintenance on Mondays, so don’t go then. 4. Tide watching for tidal flat harvesting! The best time is two hours before and after low tide, especially during spring tides. 5. Eat rou huoshao hot! It tastes much worse cold. Reheat in an oven or air fryer for 2–3 minutes to restore texture. 6. Bring your exam admission ticket! In 2026, middle and high school exam students with admission ticket and ID get free first-entry tickets to 42 paid A-level scenic spots. --- Weifang is more than just kites 🪁 It has an underrated blue ocean, a thousand-year-old ancient town, and endless delicious food Make this summer trip happen!

On the land of Qilu, there once were a group of ancient Dongyi states. These small states and tribal civilizations lasted through the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties, were conquered by Qi and Lu, and then faded into the dust of history. Seeing this historical exhibition at Shandong Museum reveals that the coastal area of Shandong also experienced a process of civilization and cultural integration. Almost every town has its own distant historical traces. ✅ About the ancient Dongyi states Shandong is the birthplace of Dongyi culture. Historically, many ancient Dongyi states existed here. Most of these states were founded by Dongyi tribes (such as descendants of Shaohao and Chiyou). They were active throughout Shandong during the Xia, Shang, and Zhou periods, later mostly annexed by the states of Qi and Lu, and eventually integrated into Huaxia civilization. 📌 State of Ni (Xiao Zhu state) Historical background: Originally the Dongyi "Er state" during the Xia and Shang periods. During the reign of King Xuan of the Western Zhou (798 BC), Zhu Yi’s second son Youfu (Zhu Fei) was enfeoffed in the former territory of the Er state, establishing the Ni state (often mistakenly called "Xiao Zhu state" or "Xiao Zhu Lou" because of its origin from Zhu state). It lasted about 537 years, spanning 15 generations, and was destroyed by the state of Chu in 261 BC. Location: Mainly in present-day Tengzhou, Shandong (early capital near Liangshui east of Tengcheng) and Shanting (mid to late capital at "Dongji"). 📌 State of Ju Historical background: Descended from the Dongyi Shaohao tribe, officially enfeoffed by the Zhou royal family in the early Western Zhou period (1046 BC) with Ziyuqi as ruler of Ju. Shihu Garden is located in the old city center of Weicheng District, Weifang. It is the best-preserved Jiangnan-style miniature garden north of the Yangtze River, known as the "Pearl of Eastern Shandong and the top small garden in the north." It was also a filming location for the Gao Laozhuang scenes in the 1986 version of Journey to the West. The entire garden covers just over 3,000 square meters. Using the "small but grand" landscaping technique, it integrates pavilions, terraces, towers, rockeries, and ponds, combining the solid architecture of the north with the elegant charm of Jiangnan gardens. It’s a must-visit when traveling to Weifang. This guide compiles all the essentials for travel, sightseeing, dining, and photography in one place. 1. Suggested visit duration 1. 5 hours for pure garden touring; 2.5–3 hours if wearing hanfu for photos, closely viewing inscriptions, and leisurely strolling the street area 2. Transportation guide with multiple options 1. High-speed rail/train travel Weifang Station: only 3 km from the attraction, 10-minute taxi ride costing about 15 CNY; also reachable by shared bike in 15 minutes Weifang North Station: farther away, 25-minute taxi ride costing about 30 CNY; taxi recommended if in a hurry 2. Public bus Routes 22, 23, 76, 82, and Loop 16 go directly to Shihu Garden station. A 2-minute walk from the stop leads to the entrance. Fare is 2 CNY, offering great value. 3. Self-driving visitors Search for "Shihu Garden cultural street parking lot" for free parking within 30 minutes; overtime charges are 1.5 CNY per hour. Parking spaces at the garden entrance are limited, so prioritize parking in the outer street area lots. 3. Essential sightseeing route without backtracking (core check-in points inside the garden) Entry order: main gate Chuahua Gate → Shihu Thatched Cottage → central koi pond + Nine-bend Bridge → Sizhao Pavilion → rockery → Yilan Pavilion → Yanxiang Tower → Chunyu Tower → inscription corridor → Wenru Zhou Pavilion → Biyun Studio → exit 1. Shihu Thatched Cottage The garden’s main hall, where the owner historically received guests and read. The interior preserves Ming and Qing dynasty carved furniture with exquisite wood and brick carvings. It’s the first key attraction upon entering, offering a glimpse into the literary life of old Weixian. 2. Koi pond and Nine-bend Bridge The garden’s water feature centerpiece. The pond is clear with hundreds of koi swimming year-round. Visitors can bring fish food to feed them. The pond bottom is paved with glazed ceramic pieces, shimmering under sunlight on clear days. The small bridge crosses the water, creating perfect photo reflections. 3. Sizhao Pavilion (Journey to the West filming location) The visual center of the garden, a hexagonal waterside pavilion with windows on all four sides. The owner built it for his frail wife to enjoy the four seasons without leaving home. The Gao Laozhuang scenes from the 1986 Journey to the West were filmed here. It’s a must-visit spot for tourists. 4. Rockery Built from Taihu stones, with winding interconnected caves, known as the northern mini "Lion Grove Garden." Climbing to the top offers a panoramic view of the entire garden, with staggered pavilions and ponds in full view. Wide-angle photos here create a strong atmosphere. 5. Yanxiang Tower A two-story Ming dynasty library and the garden’s highest point. The name comes from a poem by Li He. The second floor offers a broad view. The corridor walls are embedded with many stone carvings of Zheng Banqiao’s calligraphy and paintings, including famous works like "Rarely Confused." Calligraphy lovers should stop and appreciate them. 6. Chunyu Tower + inscription corridor A two-story waterside building paired with a long nine-bend corridor covered with Ming and Qing dynasty inscriptions by famous artists. Afternoon sunlight filters through the carved windows, casting beautiful shadows. Sitting here leaning on the carved bench creates a perfect atmosphere. 7. Wenru Zhou Pavilion A miniature boat-shaped pavilion by the water, exquisitely designed. It’s ideal for waterside photos with reflections, making it the top spot for hanfu photography. 4. Surrounding facilities: free access to Shihu Garden cultural street After purchasing the garden ticket, the surrounding antique-style cultural street is free to explore. It includes several free cultural exhibition halls, perfect for a connected visit: 1. Zheng Banqiao Memorial Hall: Zheng Banqiao served in Weixian for seven years. The hall displays reproductions of his calligraphy and paintings and his life story. Free admission. 2. Intangible cultural heritage craft street: Watch Yangjiabu woodblock New Year prints, kite making, and rosewood inlaid silver lacquerware production. Visitors can try these crafts hands-on, ideal for families. 3. Guandi Temple and Kong Rong Shrine: Accessible with the combo ticket, offering a look at traditional Weixian ancestral architecture. 5. Photo outfits and best shooting times 1. Best times: 9–11 AM and after 3 PM, when light is soft, avoiding harsh midday sun and crowds. 2. Outfit recommendations: hanfu, horse-face skirts, and light-colored new Chinese-style dresses suit the garden best; solid-color dresses and simple shirts work well for photos. Avoid dark, heavy clothing. 3. Popular photo spots summary Chuahua Gate entrance, Nine-bend Bridge water reflections, Sizhao Pavilion window, Yanxiang Tower second-floor window, rockery top panorama, corridor carved windows, Wenru Zhou waterside corner. 6. Authentic Weifang local food nearby (within walking distance) The street area and old city alleys are full of local time-honored brands, with meals averaging 30 CNY per person for a satisfying experience: 1. Meat fire cake + tofu pudding: the breakfast highlight of Weifang, crispy outside with juicy meat filling, available all day at many old shops in the street area. 2. Chaotian pot: a Weixian specialty, thin pancakes wrapped around marinated meats, with unlimited bone broth refills. A top choice for warming up in autumn and winter. 3. Chicken, duck, and noodles: coarse grain noodles paired with secret marinated broth, chewy texture, a local staple. 4. Snacks and side dishes: sesame sauce mixed dishes, mung bean cakes, Weixian spicy skin, refreshing and perfect as meal accompaniments. 7. One-day tour plans (two options) Option 1: half-day light tour (for short-trip visitors) 10:00 AM Enter and tour Shihu Garden (2 hours) 12:00 PM Lunch with Weifang specialties in the street area 1:30 PM Leisurely visit intangible cultural heritage street and Zheng Banqiao Memorial Hall 3:00 PM Return Option 2: full-day cultural deep tour (recommended) Morning: Shihu Garden museum Noon: Old city time-honored brand lunch Afternoon: Walk to Weifang Kite Museum (free admission with ID) to learn about the kite intangible cultural heritage Evening: Stroll at Bailang River Wetland Park and enjoy the riverside night view 8. Tips to avoid pitfalls 1. Closed every Monday, so don’t make a wasted trip; public holidays are busy, so arrive early to avoid crowds. 2. Do not touch ancient buildings, inscriptions, or wood carvings inside the garden. Do not climb pavilions or rockeries. Protect cultural relics. 3. The garden is small, so don’t rush. Slow down to appreciate the intricate scenery at every step. 4. Hanfu rentals are available in the outer street area at affordable prices, better value than shops inside the garden. 5. Mosquitoes are common in summer, so bring insect repellent. Rockery paths can be slippery when wet, so watch your step. Though small, Shihu Garden condenses the rare northern Jiangnan garden aesthetic, blending film nostalgia with deep Weixian cultural roots. After touring the garden, enjoy authentic local snacks for a one-stop cultural experience of Weifang’s old city life. This time, we stayed at the Tuyue Sman Yun Hotel.

Near Fuzhou, within Changle, the ancient Xianying Palace carries a story that feels less like history and more like rediscovery — a temple that disappeared beneath sand, and returned centuries later. Originally built in the Song Dynasty during the Shaoxing era, Xianying Palace was once an active coastal temple complex, closely tied to local folk belief systems along Fujian’s maritime edge. Over time, successive dynasties added layers of devotion — Ming and Qing artisans expanded its sculptural traditions, forming a rare composite world of regional deities and ritual figures unique to southeastern China. What makes this site extraordinary is not only its architecture, but what it contains inside: exceptionally vivid clay sculptures, representing a complete coastal pantheon shaped by generations of local belief. These figures, expressive and richly detailed, reflect the fusion of religious imagination and coastal life — a visual record of how communities once understood protection, sea travel, and divine order. In the late Qing period, natural disaster buried the temple beneath drifting sand, sealing it away for decades. For a time, it was forgotten — absorbed back into the landscape. Then in 1992, during local construction work, the site re-emerged unexpectedly. As sand was removed, the long-hidden statues and temple remains resurfaced, astonishing the community. The rediscovery was so significant that cultural heritage scholar Luo Zhewen described it with the inscription: “Joyfully seeing the treasure shine again.” Today, Xianying Palace stands not as a reconstructed attraction, but as a layered archaeological memory — where Song foundations, Ming-Qing artistry, and modern rediscovery coexist in the same sacred space. 📍 Location: Xianying Palace, Changle, Fuzhou 🏮 Known for: Song Dynasty origins, coastal folk religion, rediscovered clay sculptures, multi-dynasty temple layers 🏺 Highlights: Buried-and-revealed temple site, vivid clay deity statues, Ming-Qing additions, archaeological significance 💡 Travel tip: Visit slowly — this is not a rebuilt scenic site, but a place where every sculpture feels like it has just resurfaced from time. Xianying Palace is not simply a temple. It is a memory that was buried by sand — and later returned, still carrying the breath of its past.

This plan was to go to Zhangbu to dig fossils, but unexpectedly unlocked a hidden treasure in the countryside! 📍Correct navigation: Guangji Dragon King Temple (do not search for Zhaojialing Village, easy to miss) Avoid the main roads, walk through winding country paths, accompanied by green fields all the way, niche and healing. There are no towering mountains here, but a mysterious underground canyon is hidden—the Changle One Line Sky, secretive and surprising, completely undiscoverable until you are right there. It is said to be a resting place for immortals, with a full atmospheric vibe. Inside the temple, the Guangji Dragon King statue is lifelike, ancient and tranquil, with incense burning leisurely. Locals say the Dragon King guards and blesses the area with peace. Clear springs flow in the canyon, and the ground and stone walls are damp and slippery year-round, so be sure to pay attention to safety when hiking. ⚠️Important reminder: The entire route is sandy soil, do not drive deep inside, as it is easy to slip and get stuck. Walking is recommended to fully immerse yourself in the wild charm of the mountains. This is a non-commercialized spot, with original ecology and no entrance fee, few people and quiet, suitable for outdoor enthusiasts and niche travelers. The surprise encounters are far more healing than fossil digging~

In the heart of the Shandong Peninsula, northwest of Weifang, lies a city that "sings"—Changle. This place is not only famous for its sapphires but also serves as an open natural history book and an echo of ancient civilization. The journey to Changle should begin with a geological adventure that "travels through hundreds of millions of years." Fangshan Ancient Volcano National Geopark was once a place of flowing magma and trembling earth 18 million years ago. Today, stepping onto this land, you see a well-preserved volcanic neck profile, with brown hexagonal basalt columns arranged like giant organ pipes, pointing straight to the sky, silently telling the story of the earth’s past fury and power. Climbing to the viewing platform, you can gaze over the vast and rugged plateau landscape formed by volcanic lava flows. If you look closely, you might spot sparkling "little stars" in the rock crevices—these are the native mineral marks of Changle sapphires. Changle is known as China’s Gemstone City, home to one of the largest wholesale markets for gem and jade jewelry in the country, vast in scale and dazzling in variety. From raw stones and ring faces to exquisitely crafted inlaid jewelry, here you can learn the basics of gemstone identification, listen to merchants share the stories behind each stone, and even try your hand at simple inlay work. Even if you don’t buy anything, watching the craftsmen meticulously carve and polish is an artistic pleasure. Changle’s significance goes far beyond geology and jewelry. It is one of the key areas where Wang Yirong, the "Father of Chinese Oracle Bone Script," first discovered another ancient script besides oracle bone inscriptions—the bone carving script. At the Changle Museum, you can see these mysterious symbols carved on animal bones, which are even older than oracle bone script, pushing the history of Chinese civilization’s written language back by more than a thousand years. Changle is also a base for China’s electric musical instrument industry, gathering over 100 instrument manufacturing and supporting enterprises. It produces 2 million guitars and 5 million sets of instrument parts annually, exporting to more than 30 countries and regions, with an annual output value of 1 billion yuan. Among these, electric guitar production accounts for 36% of the national share, making it the "invisible champion" of the electric guitar manufacturing industry. Changle, this small city, is like a raw sapphire that has not been overly polished—seemingly simple on the surface but containing breathtaking brilliance and a long, profound story within.

Who would have thought! In the "Land of Sapphire," I discovered a hidden gem hotel backed by Shouyang Mountain and facing the Guishui Wetland. Hyatt's Yifei truly did not disappoint—Chinese aesthetics plus a natural oxygen bar directly touched my heart~ The moment you enter the lobby, you are amazed! The high vaulted ceiling paired with wooden lattice design, and the transparent installation hanging in the center inspired by the Shihu Garden, warm light streaming through the glass walls, making tea time feel like being in a fairyland. The rooms are absolutely stunning, starting at 35㎡ with large floor-to-ceiling windows, lying in bed you can see the courtyard and landscape. Dyson hairdryer, Peet’s capsule coffee, fully intelligent guest control system—the details fully deliver a star-level experience~ A must for families! The Octonauts-themed rooms really understand kids’ hearts, with custom bathrobes and children’s toiletries all provided. The outdoor lawn playground has slides and a pirate ship, kids won’t want to leave. Adults’ fun is not missing either: enjoy the indoor pool freely, sweat it out in the gym, and in the evening go to Guishui Xigu Campsite for barbecue and beer. Who wouldn’t love the wild charm by the creek and stone bridge? Foodies don’t miss out! Yican Restaurant offers over 130 kinds of buffet breakfast, from pork fire cakes to Cantonese dim sum, a delightful blend of East and West; the elegant private rooms at Shanshuige Chinese Restaurant feature a chessboard element ceiling and an expressive mountain-water background wall, dining here feels like strolling through a garden. Wake up and take a walk along the redwood boardwalk of Guishui Wetland Park, willows swaying and flowers blooming, every snap is a classical masterpiece. Whether it’s a weekend family outing, a couple’s date, or a peaceful vacation, this place can satisfy all your imagination of relaxation~ 📍Address: Shouyang Mountain Tourism Resort Area, Changle, Weifang 💡Tips: The hotel has a self-service laundry room, very convenient for self-driving trips, and nearby you can also check out museums and sapphire-related attractions.
