The days began with foggy mornings, when the landscape seemed to disappear into soft layers of mist. The boglands, wetlands, forests, and meadows took on an almost mysterious character, with every path revealing a different mood as the fog slowly lifted. At the heart of the experience stood the venerable Benediktbeuern Monastery, whose historic walls and peaceful surroundings perfectly capture the timeless atmosphere of Upper Bavaria. Walking through this area feels like stepping between different chapters of history, nature, and everyday life. There were also plenty of small pleasures along the way—lovely restaurants, relaxed conversations, good food, and the charming new-old café in the Meierhof. These simple moments somehow made the whole experience feel even more special. And then there was the group. A genuinely enjoyable group can transform an ordinary workshop into a memorable journey, and this one was filled with laughter, interesting conversations, shared discoveries, and those spontaneous moments that stay with you long after the trip is over. Early autumn was already making its presence felt: cooler air, muted colors, misty landscapes, and that unmistakable feeling that summer was gently giving way to a new season. In the past, my only impressions of Munich were the boisterous Oktoberfest and Neuschwanstein Castle—the inspiration for the Disney castle. Little did I know that as soon as I set foot on this land, I would unexpectedly embark on a "pilgrimage following the footsteps of the 'Fairy Tale King,' Ludwig II!" We started by rushing to the legendary Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace, the only one he actually lived to see completed! By the second day, we were so captivated by the king's story that we completely overhauled our itinerary, canceling our planned trip to Lake Königssee to head straight for Lake Starnberg instead, to visit the site where the "Moon King" mysteriously drowned. Sitting by the shore and feeling the gentle breeze, I have to say that German lakes are incredibly relaxing and healing. Back in the city, we explored the Munich Residence and its Treasury, and in the afternoon, we headed to Nymphenburg Palace, his birthplace. The final day was even more intense; despite the travel fatigue, we hopped on trains and ferries to finally reach the Herrenchiemsee Palace, built on an island in the middle of a lake! Before leaving, we made a special detour to St. Michael's Church (St. Michael Kirche) in the city center to pay our respects at the royal tomb in the crypt. While the king was known for his reclusive personality, his taste in art was truly unparalleled! The palace furnishings were the height of luxury—the incredibly exquisite ceramic chandelier, in particular, left me absolutely breathless! Beyond the romantic and slightly tragic tale of the king, Munich’s culinary scene left us wanting more! The beer here is genuinely cheaper than water, with a rich maltiness that goes down so smoothly. There’s also the massive German Schnitzel, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the traditional Bavarian white sausage (Weißwurst), which is strictly a breakfast delicacy. Its thin skin and juicy texture, paired with sweet mustard, is a match made in heaven! And so, our week-long trip to Munich unknowingly transformed into a deeply romantic journey through fairy tale castles and incredible Bavarian food!

But precisely because of this, this unfreezable journey becomes the most profound memory of the trip. Since the camera can’t capture it, let me use words to take you inside this fairy tale castle. 👑 The awe that cameras can’t capture 🦢 The king’s bedroom full of swans Deep blue velvet and intricate Gothic wood carvings create a solemn yet dreamlike atmosphere. The most unforgettable detail is the washbasin—the faucet is a small swan made of pure silver, elegant in posture, with the drain cleverly hidden. Every detail is so exquisite you can’t help but stop and admire. 🏛️ The throne hall without a throne The moment you open the door, the Byzantine-style dome, the dazzling mosaic decorations, and the huge chandelier hanging high above deliver a powerful visual impact. Yet the most striking feature of the entire hall is the empty throne base. The golden throne originally planned for this spot was never completed before Ludwig II’s death. This hall, symbolizing royal power, never received its throne and seems to embody the king’s lifelong ideal. 🎭 The lavish singer’s hall This hall was built by Ludwig II to honor his most admired composer, Wagner.
