TheForkUserMy wife and I day tripped to Leiden from Amsterdam. Passing down the narrow alley Pieterskerk-Choorsteeg between Pieterskerk and the Stadhuis plaza we noticed the restaurant Puur, and decided to stay in Leiden for dinner there. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. and we were the first guests, although many others soon followed. Our hostess, Virginia, was delightful and most accommodating. She gave us a window table on the alley and took our drink and dinner orders, despite her cast on a broken right arm from a recent accident. She recommended a Romanian white wine (described both as Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc) which was perfect with our meal. My wife started with a scallops dish which had a heavenly sauce with traces of vanilla. I had a large smoked salmon sushi (with an incredibly seasoned rice base) and with a mild wasabi sauce that was perfect. Both dishes were delivered to our table by the Chef, Cooke, who attended to us through out the meal. For main dishes, my wife had halibut, again in a very delicious sauce, and I had risotto with vegetables and prawns. The risotto sauce was like no other I have had. Together with bread, water, mint tea and Remy Martin cognac, the bill was 127 euro, a real bargain. After returning to Amsterdam I looked at the reviews for the restaurant on Trip Advisor. I cannot understand the couple of recent negative reviews— unless they were malicious feints. Puur is a gem of a restaurant which I will recommend unreservedly.KaHo

TheForkUserSen Viet is the real deal! Wonderful authentic Vietnamese food. We enjoyed a lovely mango salad and shrimp rolls. The pho was phenomenal and seasoned perfectly. The restaurant is comfortable and nicely decorated. Service was efficient and professional. It was worth the UBER ride there. We will definitely go back when we return to Amsterdam. TheForkUserThis restaurant is a small and private dining so they only accept Max 10 guests dine in. The owner are chef and he cooked fresh for all 5 dinner menu and inclusief wine. He also pretty acceptable with my lactose and allergance as called the customer before they are arrived. Really love this kind of small restaurant where owner explained what he cooked and his wife also served the table and communicate well with guests.You need having time enough to dine in at this restaurant as for 5 diner menu takes 4 hours overal not like other restaurant where you can be quick eat and go.POPS

My husband asked if he could buy one of their wine glasses and was originally told no but they gifted him one as we left. TheForkUserDon't get fooled by the fancy place and the pictures on the internet.Despite a nice presentation, the food is quite tasteless and of rather poor quality. The price is high considered the small quantities (e.g 6€ for a chicken burger you can eat in 2 bites, 3€ for a small portion of frozen french fries).So great looks but big lack of taste and generosity !
