📍Warsaw The Christmas Market in Warsaw is held in the heart of the Old Town. Took a 2.5-hour train from Krakow and arrived at 8 PM. As soon as I stepped out of the train station, I saw a tall, glowing building with a spire. Ah, this is the legendary "Stalin's Syringe" (Palace of Culture and Science)! I walked to the nearest subway station and bought a 1-day transport pass for 15 PLN. It's valid for buses, subways, and trams—so practical! Then I took the subway to my hotel. The itinerary officially started the next day. I went to the University of Warsaw early in the morning, as I'd heard the library garden there was beautiful. After walking around inside the library building, I realized the garden was actually on the roof. It's said to be one of the most beautiful rooftop gardens in Europe. I took a ride to Lazienki Park, a place with a great ecosystem where you can spot little squirrels from time to time. There were quite a few peacocks outside Lazienki Palace. When they fanned their tails, they made sure to face the audience on every side—very professional. Lazienki Palace is known as the "Palace on the Water," but I was a bit too lazy to tour it, so I didn't go inside. I returned to the city center to explore. The entire Warsaw Old Town is a World Heritage site. I started my city walk at the Nicolaus Copernicus Monument. Most churches here are free to enter, so I popped into every one I passed. On that same day, I happened to witness both a church wedding and a church funeral. The following churches are particularly unique or beautiful, so keep an eye out for them: ▪️ St. John's Archcathedral ▪️ St. Anne's Church ▪️ Carmelite Church ▪️ Holy Cross Church You definitely shouldn't miss the Holy Cross Church, as it houses Chopin's heart, located in the second pillar on the left side of the church. There's a special experience in Saxon Garden: the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the entrance has a changing of the guard ceremony every hour on the hour, so you can time your visit to see it. Sigismund's Column is a Warsaw landmark, and the Castle Square where it stands is the liveliest spot in the city, where you're very likely to encounter street performers. The Royal Castle is right next door, where you can see scenes of royal life and plenty of paintings. Further ahead, you'll see a mermaid statue. You'll see this sword-wielding mermaid on many Warsaw fridge magnets; she is the city's symbol and guardian. The Warsaw Barbican marks the boundary between the Old Town and the New Town and is an ancient defensive fortification. There's also a Warsaw Uprising Monument nearby, which is quite impressive and worth a visit. Finally, I went to see the Palace of Culture and Science in the daylight before taking the 188 bus to the airport.
