The Merchant was an absolute treat to stay at. Our cab driver mentioned that much of Belfast has been built or redeveloped over the past 25 years, so there aren’t many historic hotel options—making The Merchant, the former home of the Ulster Bank, feel especially special. We booked a deluxe twin room, which was incredibly spacious and well-appointed. It featured a generous seating area, two queen beds, a separate dressing room, a closet with a vanity, and a large bathroom with both a soaking tub and a full shower. Our rate also included a great breakfast, with the option for room service, which was a nice touch. We happened to be there during a rainy stretch due to Storm Dave, so we really appreciated the hotel’s beautiful atrium/restaurant space and cozy bar—it made for a perfect place to relax for the evening. The staff was exceptional throughout our stay, and I honestly couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. This truly made our trip. One small note: part of the building is newer, and reception is located on the side entrance. It doesn’t match the grand façade you’ll see in photos (that entrance leads to the main restaurant and lounge), so don’t be alarmed if it feels like you’ve arrived at the wrong place at first.
