The Davenport Inn

This was the most beautiful, relaxing and peaceful stay I’ve ever had away from home. From the warm glow of the gas lamps at the front door to the huge comfy beds and sparkling clean bathroom, this place is an absolute dream. At first I was leery of an inn without an onsite reception person but the owners have taking such thoughtful care in the rooms and preparing for guests that I literally couldn’t think of a thing that I didn’t have at the ready waiting for us in our room. I honestly think we had more fun just being in our rooms than all the other experiences on our vacation! We definitely will be back!

For my second trip to Portsmouth, I decided to stay in a historic inn instead of a chain hotel, so I chose The Davenport based on glowing reviews. Everything about The Davenport exceeded my expectations. Communication from the owners was timely and seamless - with a texted code for entry and exit, and ways to contact them should we need anything. Our room (201) was huge considering the age of the original building. The owners did a beautiful job with the renovation. The furnishings are lovely, bed and linens very comfortable, and our bathroom was spacious and spotless. The owners leave fresh flowers in the room - very nice touch. Also, there is a "tea room" on the bottom floor with complimentary beverages, snacks, and home-baked goodies from the owner. The location is supreme, in the heart of downtown yet on a side street that is quiet in the evenings. I highly recommend The Davenport Inn and will book there again if I return to Portsmouth.

We had a magical stay at the Davenport Inn. We booked the third floor suite for our wedding night. John (one of the owners) was incredibly accomodating and responsive in the weeks leading up to our wedding day. In fact, right before we arrived to the room at around 11pm, he put a champagne bottle that we had dropped off on ice so it was cold when we arrived. He also picked up chocolate covered strawberries that we had ordered from a shop downtown and left them in the fridge for us. The room itself was spacious, luxurious, and charming. We had everything we needed and loved that the Inn was quiet yet conveniently located right downtown. We will definitely be back for our anniversary next year!

I have to say the virtual innkeeper was sort of "COVID-esque." The room was lovely and comfortable. The property was well-maintained and very attractive. HVAC could have used some explanation. No-dimmer bathroom lights for nighttime use are important to us older folks. Luckily, I brought a nightlight. The coffee setup downstairs was nice, but the stairs could be a little treacherous and steep. Good location.

The Davenport was wonderful! So clean and beautiful. The amenities were very nice and thoughtful.

We stayed at the Davenport Inn while in Portsmouth for the night. We stayed on the second floor and the room exceeded our expectations! I felt like I was at home. Great location and within walking distance to the downtown area. I highly recommend the Davenport Inn.

My husband and I got away for a Birthday weekend. We love Portsmouth and wanted to stay at an inn rather than the chain hotels in the area. We were so pleasantly surprised as we approached the Davenport Inn. Stately historical grey inn welcomed us. Situated on a quiet street with other historic homes this inn is located in walking distance of amazing restaurants, stores and parks. The Inn is beautifully decorated with up to date amenities. We chose the Garden room which is situated downstairs. Beautiful quiet room. with large beautiful bathroom. Just across the hall the host so graciously left goodies for the their guest. Coffee, tea and tasteful snacks. The Davenport is a 5 star Inn. We will definitely return

Outstanding attention to detail every corner of the room and loved the refreshments. Loves walking downtown and having a cozy place to go back to after a wonderful dinner at the Library Restaurant. Best place to stay even if you live in NH!
