We spent one week at this amazingly beautiful place with our extended family. The hosts Martine and Jean Marie were incredibly kind and helpful. They also gave us a very interesting historical tour of the chateau. When you open the door you step back in time. The rooms are all beautifully appointed with manicured gardens and a very relaxing pool area. The online pictures do not do justice to the incredible beauty of this place.

A delightful Chateau with warm and kind hosts in Martine and Jean-Marie. The accommodation is beautiful, each room being unique and beautifully decorated. We travelled with family including several children. There were a few rooms which had adjoining rooms for the children which was really handy. Our toddlers loved the 'secret passages' and thought that we were staying in a 'Magical Castle' The pool is lovely and heated, the grounds and vineyards are lovely and the wine was not to bad either! There is plenty to entertain everyone with a swimming pool, trampoline, swing, ping pong, tennis courts, pool table, boules, board games, books and much more. Martine kindly put us in touch with a fantastic local caterer who prepared an evening meal for a family celebration and was generally helpful in every way. We also drove to the easily accessible beaches at Bezieres and Narbonne as well as taking a trip to the walled city of Carcassonne. There are several lovely restaurants in the vicinity and again, Martine and Jean-Marie were very helpful in making recommendations and providing information. The Chateau, despite it being grand and impressive, retains a homely feel. It is obviously well loved and cared for. Definitely a fantastic place for a gathering of family or friends.

The Chateau d'Agel is a wonderful place that certainly fit in my top 5 trips in France. Martine is a dream host, very caring and gentle. The stones of the castle will make you travel in time. The many sports activities (tennis, hiking and horse riding) are tremendous and make the place particularly fit for families. Geographically, the area is very rich and varied. I particularly appreciated the breathtaking canyons and the gorgeous vineyards. I would definitely come back!

I would warmly recommend the chateau d Agel for everyone who enjoys history, space, and peace! It’s now my 4th time there and I am every time enchanted by the quiet, the charm and serenity I feel in this place. I went with friends and our (many children) and it was a delight to see them roam the Castel, the gardens and enjoy the swimming pool. Had great catering services too !! And in the evening, everyone can enjoy privacy with very good size bedrooms and individual bathrooms/toilets (and a good wifi for work !). Best holidays ever - I m going again next year !

This place has definitely seen better days! It could do with a refurb and a deep clean - a shame as I got pulled in from the reviews but didn’t check to see how old the reviews before! Won’t make that mistake again

DO NOT BOOK CHATEAU D’AGEL! PLEASE READ….. Covid 2020, and it was illegal to leave the UK, France were also on lockdown and the owner Martine outright refused to return our €3000 deposit for my mothers 80th birthday celebration holiday. Long story short, she made us move our booking to another year which we did not want to do and could not make. She then said she’d return half the deposit if she booked the period in question (2 weeks in August’23). In July this year a friend of mine requested to book this period and she said it was booked (all evidenced on email). Today I asked for our €1500 providing this evidence and she stated on email that it’s not booked!!! This is essentially theft and solicitors are now involved

A tastefully renovated castle, congratulations. The walls, floors and decoration carry the history that the lords shared with us with passion. We could not help but be receptive to this story. Thank you very much for this little journey that takes us out of time. Best wishes.

magnificent place, peaceful and rejuvenating. we stayed at the castle this summer with several friends, the place is sublime, we were in the bird room, magnificent, spacious, very good bedding. we loved our stay, Martine welcomed us warmly and her husband will be able to tell you the fascinating history of the castle. the swimming pool is large and well equipped, practical for groups with children. the outdoor seating area and the orangery are very pleasant. we used the cook's service, really great, I highly and unreservedly recommend this place steeped in history and very well appointed and equipped. Great with kids 😉. Supermarket 15 min by car + pharma 7/10 min.

We spent a week at Agel Castle with our two children and the stay was simply exceptional: idyllic setting (a real Cathar castle with its keep and magnificent garden), spacious rooms decorated with care, large swimming pool and games for children. children (including a trampoline!). The owners of the place are also charming and give very good advice on visits and restaurants in the region.
