Capella Shanghai Jian Ye Li

This hotel is right on my doorstep, and I decided to try it out for my birthday. Before checking in, I wondered if the price was a bit high, but my prejudices were completely shattered after my stay. From the moment you step into the villa's courtyard, it evokes a sense of anticipation and comfort. The indoor temperature was just right, making it very comfortable. The villa is extremely well-maintained, with a decor that exudes an Old Shanghai charm. The cleanliness deserves a perfect score! As someone with mild OCD, this is the only place where I've been completely satisfied with the level of cleanliness. I'd heard some complaints about the shower and hot water timing, but for a villa with such an old-world feel, I found 1-2 minutes for the hot water to kick in perfectly acceptable. The water pressure in the shower was just right. The drain was a little slow, but the water didn't pool above my toes, so it wasn't an issue. All the complimentary amenities (except for the hairdryer) were quite refined. I don't understand why they still use an old-fashioned hairdryer – that's my only query. The bedding was comfortable, and the mattress provided excellent support, allowing me to have a wonderful night's sleep. They even delivered a birthday cake twice, which was a lovely touch. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied, and I'll definitely recommend this hotel as my top choice for friends or family visiting Shanghai in the future.

After returning from Capella Ubud, I had withdrawal symptoms, so I booked a stay at Capella Jian Ye Li right on my doorstep. The Shikumen-style room is very unique – a four-story villa with a small terrace. Breakfast is served in a Michelin-starred restaurant, and even the local dishes are prepared to a high standard. I participated in the Zhan Zhuang (standing meditation) and bag-bedazzling activities, both of which were very interesting.

Staying at this hotel was a wonderful surprise. Not only was the environment elegant and peaceful, but the staff's warmth and professionalism made us feel incredibly welcome. The breakfast was rich and varied, satisfying even the most discerning palate. Thank you to the hotel for creating a perfect holiday for us.

Having stayed at several Capella properties, the Shanghai one truly stands out. I've been wanting to visit for ages, and finally, my sister and I came to experience it this holiday. It's a hotel with real character. Tucked away in a quiet spot despite being in a bustling area, our room was a four-story villa. Staying here felt like stepping back into 1930s Shanghai. The hotel bed was incredibly comfortable; I slept exceptionally well both nights, haha! 😃

This has to be the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. As one of Shanghai's most expensive hotels, I never expected it to be so bad. First, the soundproofing is terrible. I could hear people walking on the stairs and opening/closing doors in other rooms from my own room. Multiple times in the morning, I thought someone had entered my room. Second, the designer of this hotel is an absolute genius for putting the bedroom and bathroom on different floors. So, if you need to use the restroom in the middle of the night, you have to climb a flight of stairs to get there. I strongly advise against staying here if you have elderly family members or children; it could genuinely be life-threatening. I actually fell, thankfully only scraping my hand. Also, the bottled water comes in these incredibly difficult-to-open aluminum cans that can easily cut you. I can't understand whether safety is more important or their so-called environmental protection.

Feeling bored during the May Day holiday, I spontaneously decided to book a hotel and spend a day relaxing. Capella truly stands out among five-star hotels. Even though I grew up in a traditional Shikumen house, where my family of three squeezed into one room, none of them were as spacious as Capella's bathroom! The hygiene, service, and dining were all excellent. The room's fragrance was very elegant; as someone very sensitive to smells, I usually bring my own diffuser when staying at hotels, but Capella's scent was incredibly soothing and relaxing. I never take hotel amenities, but I couldn't resist asking the evening staff for an extra set – I absolutely adore the Frederic Malle scent. The afternoon tea service in the library seemed a bit understaffed, but there was a tall, bespectacled young woman whose awareness and service were spot-on, a definite plus. The in-room dining was a hit with the kids, very prompt, and the staff were extremely polite. Navigating the stairs can indeed be inconvenient; the section leading to the terrace is particularly steep, making it a hassle to go up and down for things. There was only one person at the front desk sometimes, so I occasionally had to wait. However, none of these minor points will stop me and my child from our 'date' – we'll definitely be back to stay and play for a day every holiday!
