Sanae' Oldtown Hotel

For this trip to Chiang Mai, I chose this hotel primarily for its convenience. Given that my usual range of movement, even using songthaews, is within a 40-minute walk from here, the accessibility was excellent. There were also my favorite cafes and restaurants nearby, and this time I even found a 24-hour smoothie shop (about a 5-minute walk away). Although the hotel exterior shows its age, the interior and rooms were clean and comfortable. The bed was neither too hard nor too soft, and above all, the shower was fantastic. The hot water flowed steadily, and both the water volume and pressure were perfect. Amenities were well-stocked. There are no indoor slippers, so if you need them, it's a good idea to bring your own. I opted for no breakfast, but the light snacks provided were more than satisfying. There were several types of coffee to choose from, four kinds of fruit, and three types of bread, among other things... it made me want to try the breakfast next time. On my departure day, I asked them to call a taxi for me. I expected it to be around 150-200 baht, considering the call-out fee to the airport, so I was surprised that it was only 80 baht. Even though I don't speak much English, they listened attentively to what I had to say and were incredibly kind and helpful. When I was leaving my room, I happened to meet a cleaner in the hallway, and he kindly carried my luggage to the front desk. Even though the elevator was right in front of me, I was very grateful! He was a lovely man with a great smile. I'd love to stay here again next time.

The location isn't bad. There's a 7-Eleven and a laundry shop nearby. There are also many motorbike rental shops in the vicinity. Having a motorbike makes it even more convenient for exploring restaurants and cafes. The hotel offers free and delicious coffee from 7 am to 3 pm. The room faced the street but noise wasn't an issue. There's a balcony, but smoking isn't allowed there, which was a shame for a smoker, hence 4 stars.

The hotel staff are very kind. It seemed like many Japanese tourists were staying there, and Japanese guidance was also provided. The lobby is stylish, and you can choose from the cafe menu without extra charges. The area around the hotel is not noisy, and it was convenient to have a coin laundry and 7-Eleven nearby.

Excellent location! A stylish and clean hotel. Located within Chiang Mai's Old City, it's a convenient 5-10 minute Grab ride to old city attractions like Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phra Singh. Plus, there are local Thai restaurants next door (the porridge seems popular) and trendy cafes, making it perfect for a relaxed stay. The cheaper rooms have small windows that only look out onto the wall of the neighboring building, but being across from the main street, it's quieter and more comfortable. The building itself is probably old but has been stylishly renovated, making it comfortable. There's a spacious cafe on the first floor that offers drinks and snacks to guests.

The rooms were decent. We booked two rooms for three people at a very cheap rate, costing less than 100 RMB per person. On the first floor, there's complimentary coffee, cookies, fruit, and instant noodles for guests. However, the window was tiny and only overlooked an air conditioning unit. If you have the budget, I'd suggest upgrading to a room with a view, as ours felt more like a **room. But it's perfectly fine for a one-night stay! Overall, highly recommended!
