Three Days in Shanghai in March.
Shanghai showed us many sides on our trip: gleaming glass towers, streets lined with historic homes, a giant croissant in a shop window, and rooftops glowing at night. While you can find all of this in one city, I wouldn't recommend trying to squeeze it all into a single day again. We visited in March 2025. Based on our experience, here is a suggested itinerary for three full days 🏙️ Day 1. Skyscrapers and the Bund. Start in Lujiazui to see the towers from below and wander near the Oriental Pearl Tower. Then, cross over to the other side of the Huangpu River. Spend the afternoon walking down Nanjing Road, and head to the Bund toward evening. Save the view of the illuminated Pudong skyline for after dark—that’s when you’ll realize why you spent all day taking photos of those same towers from the other side. Day 2. Streets, Coffee, and Unique Shopping. Check out the Wukang Building, then stroll down Wukang Road and through the former French Concession. It’s better to take it slow and admire the architecture rather than just rushing from one landmark to another. Afterward, head to HAUS Shanghai on Huaihai Middle Road. You'll find Gentle Monster, Tamburins, and NUDAKE there. That giant croissant in our photo? It’s part of the decor—they won't actually serve it with your coffee!))) Day 3. History and Yuyuan at Night. The Museum of the First National Congress of the CPC and Xintiandi make for a perfect pairing for one part of the day. The museum features historical documents, the original meeting site, and large-scale dioramas. In the evening, make your way to Yuyuan Bazaar for its traditional shopping streets, ornate rooftops, water reflections, and beautiful lanterns 🏮 If you want to go inside Yu Garden itself, make sure to visit during the day and buy the correct ticket. The surrounding bazaar streets and the garden have different entry requirements and hours. In March, it's good to have a backup plan for the weather: save the walking tours for sunny days and hit the museums or shops when it's gray. You can see both cloudy skies and warm evening light in our photos. A light jacket is much more useful here than waiting for eternal warmth. Before you go, make sure to set up your payment apps, maps, and communication. Feel free to swap days around depending on the museum's schedule. This plan is based on our actual walks, so don't forget to account for travel time and lunch breaks!
