Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai

Stayed here with my family during the Chinese New Year holiday. We had our New Year's Eve dinner at the hotel's Guangzhou Restaurant, and the room view was absolutely stunning, directly facing the Oriental Pearl Tower. The facilities were also great, spacious and comfortable. The lion dance on the first day of the New Year was lively and brought back a wonderful sense of tradition. So, choosing to spend New Year's Eve here was definitely the right decision.

I've always loved the warm ambiance of the Shangri-La! When my daughter was two and a half, we stayed at the Shangri-La during the Expo. As she grew older, she developed a fondness for trendy hotels. This time, we revisited the hotel, and she accompanied me to the classic Shangri-La. She truly appreciated its cozy, natural, and understated luxury. The fresh flower display in the lobby, the live music, and the excellent location and proximity made our two days in the city incredibly comfortable. Before we left, she agreed with my choice, saying that from now on, whenever she visits Shanghai, she'll stay at the Pudong Shangri-La.

During the Chinese New Year, I brought my child to Shanghai and had the pleasure of staying at the Grand Hyatt for two nights, thanks to our itinerary. The location is truly excellent, situated in the prime Lujiazui area, right next to the large shopping complex Super Brand Mall and the luxury IFC Mall, making shopping and entertaining the kids incredibly convenient. During the holiday, the hotel even offered various free activities for children staying with them at scheduled times. We booked a room in the Jin Mao Tower (Purple Gold Building), and although it's an older wing, it's well-maintained, and the room was clean and tidy. Breakfast is on the second floor, with access from both towers. On the first day, there was a slight hiccup: staff members at the entrance were directing guests to a temporary dining area on the third floor. Regular hotel guests would know that temporary areas can differ significantly, and at the very least, guests should be clearly informed and given the option to wait or go to the temporary area. While it's understandable that it was busy and understaffed during Chinese New Year, after my complaint, a restaurant manager followed up the same day, and things improved the next day. However, it still highlighted a lack of staff training that led to much confusion.

The decor is incredibly high-end, grand, and elegant. It was Chinese New Year, so there was a strong 'Year of the Horse' atmosphere. The lobby is luxurious and impressive, and the river view from the room is absolutely stunning. The room facilities are opulent, and the hallway carpets are beautiful. The service was excellent; Jamie, Summer, and Nina were all very professional and attentive. My entire experience was fantastic, and I'll definitely be staying here again.

The Shangri-La has an excellent location. You can enjoy views of the Huangpu River right from your room, and it's right next to the 'Three Amigos' skyscrapers, making it super convenient for getting around and shopping. The room facilities are well-maintained, the breakfast spread is incredibly rich, and the service is quite good too.

This is my go-to hotel whenever I'm on a business trip in Shanghai. I especially love the Executive Lounge on the executive floor – it's clean, the service is excellent, and the view overlooks the Huangpu River, making the Bund's night view absolutely stunning. For breakfast in the Executive Lounge, you can order several à la carte options, and both the afternoon tea and happy hour were very satisfying.
