△ The original building opened to the public in 1973, designed by Dutch De Stijl architect Gerrit Rietveld. The Van Gogh Museum's new wing, designed by a Japanese architect, was completed in 1999 and primarily hosts temporary exhibitions.

△ The first-floor exhibition, titled "Heart-to-Heart with the Great Artist Van Gogh," guides visitors through the artist's lifelong dedication to painting via a series of works and archival materials. The second floor showcases Van Gogh's creations from 1883–1889, while the third floor displays his correspondence with his brother Theo. On the fourth floor, you'll find works Van Gogh produced during lucid intervals between his recurring mental health episodes from 1889–1890.

Limited-time exhibition | Van Gogh and the Roulin Family – Reunited at Last

This exhibition showcases Vincent van Gogh's extraordinary series of portraits created for Joseph and his family. Van Gogh painted multiple portraits of each family member. These artworks were later sold and dispersed worldwide. Thanks to loans from major museums in the Netherlands and internationally, most of these portraits are now reunited. This special exhibition focuses on this significant collection of works created during van Gogh's turbulent period in Arles, southern France (1888–1889).

Van Gogh harbored grand ambitions for his portraiture. He greatly admired the portraits by 17th-century painters Frans Hals and Rembrandt, believing these artists were unparalleled in capturing both individuals and their era.

Beyond portraying character, Van Gogh sought to capture the spirit of modernity in his paintings. He aimed to establish himself as an avant-garde artist through this approach.
