Pongwe Beach Hotel

Location is slightly far from everything, but you get to enjoy the private pristine white beach which was a bonus. Be aware there are few beach boys who will try to promote their packages, which the safety of those packages is uncertain. Better book from a reputable travel agency if you are looking for a day tour or snorkeling. The room itself was comfortable, but there was bird poop on the balcony sunbed when we returned from snorkeling. Nothing much to do at the hotel itself as there were limited activities available. The only entertainment was the cultural dance and it was great though. Breakfast was awesome, our only dissatisfaction was the lack of room service. We understand BBQ dinner will be served at the restaurant, yet not everyone loves BBQ. Consider the hotel location is far from other restaurants, they should offer more dining options including room service. We were exhausted from a day tour and wish to have a quiet dinner in our room but the room service request was rudely rejected. Even if we volunteered to collect the food from the restaurant and return the plates ourselves and they would still charge you extra $50. The lady staff at the restaurant showed impatience attitude and did not bother to serve you. Until we lodged a complaint then they were willing to send the food to our room. Honestly speaking, dinner was mediocre with tiny portion size. It did not worth the price we paid and we felt totally ripped off.

We are lucky enough to have travelled extensively throughout the world. But this was a special celebration & therefore we wanted a personal experience. We chose this Hotel because it was unique, authentic , tranquil and individual. It exceeded from arrival to Departure. Everything was pristine. Our arranged transfer from airport to Hotel was perfect. Our welcome at 5 am was amazing. Our beach bungalow was something I dreamed of . Perfect beach and Ocean view with White Sands and palm trees. We came for relaxation and rest which was certainly achieved. Credit to The staff who definitely exceeded our expectations and helped us achieve such a wonderful ‘dream of Zanzibar ‘ The owners , Gabriel & Monika should be exceedingly proud of Staff . Impeccable service and friendliness. We were lucky to stay for 18 days & in two different accommodations from beachfront bungalow to pool bungalow exquisite in different ways. The Restaurant food was exemplary choice and service. Credit to chef and & staff. But not forgetting The Reception, garden , waiting, bar, spa & all Staff. All of which represent the unique Family at Pongwe Beach Hotel. The beauty of this hotel is outstanding, Simple pleasures of listening to the sound of the ocean or sitting & rocking in a hammock watching the palms wave above. To be able to watch the ocean & sky dance while just sitting & letting the nature talk to you. Away from the busy world of media , technology & relax. Precious memories for us both. We recently stayed here and had an amazing experience. The location is absolutely stunning with breathtaking views all around. The staff are wonderful, welcoming, and always ready to help. The food was truly unreal—every meal we had was delicious, fresh, and beautifully prepared.However, there are a few practical things guests should keep in mind regarding beverages. If you do not drink fizzy drinks (which are reasonably priced), your non-alcoholic options are quite limited. The only alternative to soda was fresh juice, which cost a steep $8 per glass.Additionally, complimentary table water is not provided at dinner. We were charged $2 for a bottle of water each evening. While this did not ruin our wonderful trip, it is a frustrating hidden extra that management should consider changing.Overall, it is a gorgeous spot with top-tier food and service, just be prepared to budget a bit extra for non-alcoholic drinks at dinner.

We stayed 6 nights at Pongwe Beach Hotel as part of our honeymoon trip. We are so thankful we chose this place and can't imagine anywhere better to have spent this time together. The beach at Pongwe is beautiful, white sand, clear sea and nice and quiet. Our room was huge with a private plunge pool, and we also regularly made use of the larger shared pool. Everything was clean and comfortable with stunning views. The staff here were very friendly and accommodating and looked after us very well. The food was exceptional - tasty seafood, curries and so much varied choice on the menu. We had a beautiful, relaxing stay and were sad to leave - thank you!

A hidden piece of old school relaxed chilled out luxury. Where luxury is a pristine semi private beach, incredible food and great food and beverage staff ( thank you Amani for the best coffees yet in Tanzania - & a mean cocktail too!) we stayed in cliff suite which have their own plunge pool - stunning views very laid back and food was BEST of our trip and changing daily. We stayed in 3 hotels whilst on our honeymoon and Pongwe Beach Hotel was our favourite. We booked the Garden view room as this was the only room available for our dates, but it was perfect as we spent most of our time at the beach or the pool. The beach was beautiful and there were always sunbeds available at both the pool and beach. We booked Half Board and the food at breakfast and dinner was always really good! The staff were all very helpful and always checking in to see how we were and whether we needed anything. If you want a very relaxing few days around the beach and pool then I would highly recommend. Everything about this place is magical. Location, rooms, food, cocktails and above all the people. To have a whole beach to ourselves for most of the day, beautiful warm sea, fascinating rock pooling when the sea is out, exquisite food and a lovely bar with live music and bush babies most night was a real treat. Above all it’s the thought that goes into making it special that makes PBH stand out - from the baskets and sun hats that are provided for the beach to the staff who are always attentive, but also fun. We had the most wonderful stay at Pongwe Beach Hotel! My husband and I spent 7 nights in this peaceful paradise, and it truly exceeded our expectations. The beach is by far the best in the Pongwe area — crystal-clear water, wide sandy shores, quiet and private, plenty of space to relax and enjoy the beauty of the ocean. We were also celebrating our friend’s birthday, and the hotel made it incredibly special. The staff welcomed us with a fantastic “Jambo” song and celebration. Their singing and dancing were amazing — you can really feel how joyful and genuine everyone is. The team there is warm, friendly, and full of positive energy. The food was consistently delicious throughout our stay. Everything tasted fresh, and the chef clearly has a great talent for flavor. We loved the local produce — the avocados were incredible, the octopus salad was a standout dish, and the fruits were always fresh and perfectly seasonal. One of the most unique experiences was seeing the wildlife around the hotel. Every evening around 7pm the bush babies come out for bananas, which was such a fun moment to watch. We also saw monkeys relaxing in the lounge area, hanging out on the ceiling like they owned the place! The only thing we didn’t manage to see was the elephant shrew. There was always something happening in the evenings as well — local cultural shows, music nights, and performances that made every night feel special. We truly had an unforgettable time and enjoyed every moment of our stay. Thank you to the whole team at Pongwe Beach Hotel for making our trip so memorable. We had a fantastic stay at Pongwe Beach Hotel, there was always a great atmosphere around the hotel, with lovely friendly attentive service from the whole team. The food was great, each meal was plentiful and with wonderful touches of local Zanzibar flavours! The beach was perfect, dotted with palm trees it felt quite private. Considering we were there in peak season, the public area of the beach beyond the hotel had very few other people passing by, a lovely quiet corner of Zanzibar! There is something very special about walking out your room and straight on to the beach in the morning to watch the sunrise! Thanks team Pongwe I hope to be back soon!
