The hygiene was appalling: there was noticeable dust accumulation in the room corners, stains on the sink and bathtub, and thick cobwebs on all the lamp shades. The facilities were severely outdated: the room decor felt old-fashioned, the bathroom had a strong foul smell and lacked ventilation; the air conditioning was inconsistent, blowing hot and cold, which made it hard to sleep comfortably at night; and the shower water temperature also fluctuated. Additionally, the deposit charged at check-in was inconsistent with what Trip.com had informed me before my trip, and it was extremely unreasonable. A hefty deposit of 10,000 Thai Baht was taken upfront, an amount far exceeding normal standards and severely out of proportion with the single-night room rate. Such a high frozen sum is entirely unnecessary just to cover the minibar or potential damages, creating significant cash flow pressure, and the credit card pre-authorization unfreeze period is long, making the check-in process a very poor experience.

The location wasn't particularly great, and the room was old with hair everywhere, so the cleaning was subpar. The service attitude was okay, but there were too many people, and a lot of children were very noisy.

The room facilities are a bit dated, which we had anticipated before booking. We were still willing to accept it, trusting in Shangri-La's quality. However, after four trips to Thailand, the worst service attitude we encountered was surprisingly at Shangri-La. I had booked two twin rooms because we were traveling with elderly family members and wanted them to be on the same floor. A Thai front desk agent named Kate suggested we pay an extra 500 Baht to get a king-sized room, claiming that would work. First, we didn't want a king-sized bed; it wouldn't accommodate our children, and the elderly aren't used to king beds. I had already booked twin rooms. I declined. I had even sent an email to the hotel before booking, specifically requesting rooms on the same floor due to traveling with seniors. This front desk agent, Kate, then claimed there were no rooms available on the same floor. I said we could wait for any time, as long as the rooms were on the same floor, but she kept insisting there weren't any, that they had to be on different floors, deliberately making things difficult for us. She was arrogant throughout the entire interaction! She had such a sour face! And she showed differential treatment! She wasn't like this with the Caucasians she checked in before us! And even if you don't have connecting rooms, it's fine! But why the bad attitude?! The more I thought about it, the angrier I got, so I asked for the duty manager. The manager helped us resolve the issue, saying they would inform us as soon as rooms became available later. Many thanks to this manager.

Before coming here, I saw a lot of reviews saying the facilities were old, but personally, I think they're fine and everything works perfectly. Compared to my two energetic kids, what's a little wear and tear? Before booking, I compared Marriott, InterContinental, and Shangri-La, and ultimately chose Shangri-La. With two kids, aged 9 and 6, a small room would have been uncomfortable. This room is incredibly spacious. The hotel was very thoughtful and added two extra beds for free, so everyone had their own bed and slept very comfortably. They also placed a huge bear on the sofa and folded towels into elephants and swans, which absolutely delighted the kids! We also participated in many free kids' club classes. It was fun to see all the colorful little ones show up for class when it was time. Parents from all over the world didn't wait around, they all needed their free time! 😊 This truly lives up to its reputation as a top family-friendly hotel. There's a 7-Eleven and Big C nearby, and the Chang Klan Night Bazaar is just a 5-minute walk away. It's also very close to the old city, about 1.5 km on foot or a 10-minute taxi ride. I also had a spa treatment at the hotel; the ambiance was nice, though the price was probably a bit higher than outside. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied.

The rooms are a bit dated, and some have a slight musty smell. The bathrooms have been renovated and are quite clean. The breakfast selection isn't bad, and the service attitude is pretty good. A three-meter deep swimming pool is quite rare for a hotel.

Upgraded to an executive room at the hotel for an extra charge. The view is great, and the service is very nice. Breakfast, afternoon tea, etc., are all abundant. Personally, I think the value for money is better than the InterContinental. Highly recommended!

This is considered one of the better hotels in Chiang Mai. The architecture is very Thai, and while the facilities are a bit dated, it doesn't really affect the overall experience. The breakfast was quite varied, but a little less impressive than I'd hoped. It's quite humid here; the duvet and clothes left out still felt damp even after being out all day.
