Fairmont Peace Hotel on the Bund

Came with the kids to experience old Shanghai! The hotel was better than I expected, not as old as I thought it would be. It's that kind of old that's very well-maintained. The service was excellent. The area outside the hotel was very lively. Breakfast was good too.

The historic Fairmont Peace Hotel, built in 1929 by the British-Jewish businessman Victor Sassoon, holds a special place in history. It's where Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling got engaged, and where Lu Xun hosted Charlie Chaplin. Countless celebrities have graced its rooms. Previously, the Peace Hotel comprised both North and South buildings and was once known as the 'First Building in the Far East,' an iconic landmark on the Bund. I was incredibly fortunate to stay here this time, a truly immersive and delightful experience. Step out, and you're greeted by the architectural wonders of the Bund and the observation deck offering stunning views of Pudong. Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street is right at the doorstep. The location is absolutely superb. The hotel also houses a small museum, which feels more like an exhibition hall, with regular guided tours. A magnificent glass peace dove with outstretched wings dominates the center of the lobby. Despite its century-old history, the hotel boasts comprehensive and modern facilities. Every corner of the hotel is picturesque, perfect for photos. All the staff were warm and polite, providing very thoughtful service. However, there was a minor lapse when the concierge staff placed my checked luggage on the floor. The hotel's ambiance is fantastic. I requested a high-floor room overlooking Nanjing Road during check-in and was assigned a room on the 7th floor, also facing Nanjing Road, which offered excellent views. Lying in bed at night, I could admire the Nanjing Road nightscape. Perfect! The package also included drinks and snacks at the Cathay Room on the top floor. After discussing with the hotel, we opted to exchange it for a performance at the Jazz Bar. An 80+-year-old jazz band performs there nightly, accompanied by a resident singer. We were given two complimentary drinks – one cocktail and one juice – along with chicken wings and peanuts. Listening to jazz, enjoying a drink, and munching on snacks was pure bliss. The room perfectly blends classic and modern styles, with comprehensive amenities. The bathroom was huge, and there was a walk-in closet and a very large bathtub. The bed was super-sized, with soft and comfortable bedding. The room was spotlessly clean, and the toiletries were all high-quality. Before we returned to the room in the evening, the staff had already prepared it for bedtime. Welcome fruits and exquisite chocolates were also thoughtfully provided in the room. They were so beautiful, I almost didn't want to eat them! The in-room coffee bar offers complimentary coffee, while the mini-bar items are chargeable. After enjoying the jazz, returning to the room for a relaxing shower and a good night's sleep was simply wonderful. So happy! Breakfast was served at the Jasmine Restaurant on the first floor. The East-meets-West buffet offered an incredibly rich selection, with what felt like nearly a hundred different dishes. There was so much food, I almost couldn't try everything. Upon being seated, the server brought a cup of coffee and a pot of tea. In the end, I piled my table high with food and savored each bite. I ate so much I could barely walk out – utterly satisfying! Leaving the hotel, I felt quite reluctant to go.

A century-old establishment with history, excellent service, and a strong reputation! Worth every penny for a comfortable and incredibly enjoyable stay! Breakfast was a bit crowded but offered a wide variety of dishes. We spent two romantic nights in Shanghai and took many beautiful commemorative photos!

Everything at the Fairmont Peace Hotel, Shanghai was perfect! You can see the 'Four-Piece Set' (Lujiazui skyline) right outside the door. It's just a shame I had an early flight and couldn't experience the breakfast. The location is absolutely unbeatable!

The Fairmont Peace Hotel Shanghai is absolutely fantastic! The breakfast was incredibly delicious, and the room decor was elegant and cozy. The staff's service was top-notch – extremely professional and polite. Truly lives up to its reputation as Shanghai's premier hotel!

You can really feel its age here. It's 97 years old, and entering the room felt like stepping into a single-person apartment. The bedroom takes up half the space, with the other half comprising a walk-in closet, a tea/coffee counter, and the bathroom (which isn't small, and I quite liked its layout). It has wooden floors, and the TV is tucked away in a wooden cabinet. When you turn on the TV, there's an introduction to the Peace Hotel. There's also a museum with a very detailed and insightful explanation. In the evening, the bar offers a taste of Shanghai's unique charm, and there were quite a few foreigners enjoying themselves. The indoor pool isn't very big, more like a family-sized pool. I originally came to soak in the atmosphere of the past, and walking around the hotel, I really savored that unique, old-world charm that is so characteristic of the Peace Hotel. Moments from old movies kept flashing in my mind – truly extraordinary... I heard they're planning to redecorate the Peace Hotel?! I sincerely hope the Peace Hotel never loses its unique and authentic essence! There were always people taking photos with the 'Peace Hotel' sign at the entrance. The Bund is right outside. The service was excellent, simple, direct, and spot-on! 👍🏻

Every time I come to Shanghai, I head straight for Disneyland. This time, after Disneyland, I decided to explore Shanghai a bit. I booked the Peace Hotel by the Bund. When I arrived, I was feeling a bit motion sick, my face was pale. They didn't have any rooms, and the staff told me I could upgrade for 1700 to a family connecting room with a living area, so I immediately upgraded. The room wasn't ready yet, so we went to a smaller room first. My child wanted to open presents but we didn't have scissors. A staff member happened to come by with something, so I asked her if she had scissors. She said, 'Go downstairs and ask the front desk, we don't have them here,' and then just left. I remember many hotels would say, 'I'll bring them up for you, and you can return them to me after you use them, or I'll take them away,' or 'I'm sorry, we don't have them here.' This person's service attitude was really terrible. No matter how good the front desk service is, it can't make up for these 'bad apples' being so annoying. Her way of speaking was stiff, it really spoiled such a high-class hotel. I later went downstairs to the front desk to borrow them and returned them. The front desk staff were quite nice. The hotel's toiletries smell great. I asked a young man at the hotel entrance, and he said it was a French brand, but he didn't tell me the name, and I can't find it. The environment is also very good, the room is clean and tidy. The hotel's food is also decent. The bread and waffles are delicious. I recommend changing the scallion pancakes; they were cold, oily, and hard when I got them, impossible to bite. That's all for now. I hope for new surprises next time I visit.

This hotel has a great sense of history and an unbeatable location, right by the Bund and Nanjing East Road. The breakfast spread is fantastic, and the service is incredibly attentive. The Dragon & Phoenix restaurant (Chinese restaurant) offers stunning views of the Bund, making this hotel definitely worth a stay.

Peace Hotel, a truly perfect experience. The century-old elevator, the stunning terrace views, the enchanting live jazz performances, the exquisite museum, and the hotel's rich history all make it well worth a visit.
