I recently stayed at the Ruijin Intercontinental, a rare gem in the heart of Shanghai with over 50,000 square meters of garden greenery. The location is fantastic, right at the intersection of Ruijin Road, Maoming Road, and Fuxing Middle Road, making it very convenient for getting around. It's close to Huaihai Road, Xintiandi, and the former French Concession. The hotel boasts two century-old brick-and-wood heritage buildings, plus a nearly century-old Japanese-style building that now houses a Cantonese restaurant. There's also an ancient well, as seen in the last photo. The historical building tour within the hotel is highly recommended; it takes about half an hour and introduces these three historic structures. You can inquire at the front desk about timings – apparently, it's daily mornings during summer and only on holidays otherwise. The room decor is quite vintage and very comfortable, though the bathroom isn't a wet/dry separation type. The executive lounge's afternoon tea was excellent 👍, but dinner was just so-so. Why do they dim the lights so much during dinner, though? 🤔 Breakfast was extensive and even included ice cream. The hotel service was good.

Absolutely loved my stay here, especially Yves, Carrie, and Chris! I needed to be near Ruijin Hospital, and the hotel lobby offered a direct view of it – truly within walking distance. Having such a beautiful garden-style hotel in the city center makes it the perfect choice for both business and leisure travelers. The environment is simply stunning, and the service is exceptional. The staff are proactive and enthusiastic, always willing to help even if it's outside their direct duties. The breakfast buffet was incredibly rich and varied. I have a sensitive stomach and a lot of dietary restrictions, but everything was accommodated. My mom absolutely loved it and was busy taking pictures! 😝

This hotel, a renovation of old Shanghai villas, boasts a 'old money' style decor and is perfectly situated within the city walk area of Fuxing Road and Sinan Road. There are many unique cafes, restaurants, bookstores, and old residences nearby. The English 'old money' style decoration is quite appealing. The downsides are that it's quite a distance from the subway station, and the surrounding streets are narrow, one-way, two-lane roads, making transportation not very convenient. Inside the hotel, the garden area doesn't separate pedestrians from vehicles; people walk on paths while cars pass by, which feels unsafe. Also, there seem to be several wedding companies nearby. Throughout my three-day stay, there were weddings held on the hotel lawn with loud speakers, which was very noisy and significantly detracted from the experience. Furthermore, on the day I checked into the Executive Tower, I intended to have afternoon tea. When I went downstairs to ask the front desk where the Executive Lounge was, a middle-aged female staff member with a Shanghai accent actually interrogated us, asking if we were guests, which room we were in, and if afternoon tea was included. She even spent a long time checking on the computer before finally telling us the location. This felt very unprofessional and deeply disrespectful. When I ask where the Executive Lounge is, a simple answer is all that's needed; whether or not I'm eligible for afternoon tea is something the Executive Lounge staff can determine. I hope the hotel can improve its training.

My stay here exceeded expectations. The hotel's location is super convenient, close to all the places I needed to go. The surrounding area is perfect for a city walk, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, and bars. The hotel itself has beautiful, peaceful garden landscaping, and the shuttle service was a huge help. The breakfast selection was extensive, and the apple juice was particularly delicious. The butterfly shortbread included with the room was also very tasty. Both the front desk and room service were very responsive, and all my requests were handled promptly. Overall, I was extremely satisfied.

The hotel is situated on Ruijin 2nd Road, right next to the Huaihai Road commercial area, within walking distance of Tianzifang, and very close to Shaanxi South Road Metro Station. Its convenience in a bustling city is simply unbeatable. However, it wasn't until I truly stepped through its gates that I understood what 'hidden gem in the city' truly means. A 55,000 square meter English garden embraces century-old red-brick villas, with a large lawn, ancient trees, fountains, and old Western-style houses creating a picturesque scene. Just beyond the walls lies the bustling city, yet within the garden, it's a serene and tranquil world of its own. The hotel's overall sense of luxury isn't about superficial glitz; rather, it's a refined and unhurried elegance that has settled over time. The lobby is elegant and grand, and every brick and tile within the historic buildings exudes the charm of old Shanghai. Every snap of a photo captures a beautiful scene. The guest rooms are clean and comfortable, with soft and skin-friendly bedding, and the meticulous service in every detail ensures a good night's sleep. The breakfast truly deserves special mention. It's rich in variety and exquisite, offering a full spread of Chinese and Western pastries, made-to-order noodles, fresh fruits, and desserts. The presentation is refined, and the taste is well above average. Dining with a view of the garden is an absolute treat. This was a stay that offered both historical depth and modern comfort, making it worth revisiting.

For the price, the value for money was just okay, and breakfast was nothing special. The old British-style building looks good, and aside from a slight damp and musty smell inside (due to the season), everything else was fine. Its location right next to Ruijin Hospital is incredibly convenient! If it were a bit cheaper, I'm sure it would be packed.

When I'm in the area for a show at the Culture and Arts Center, I habitually book the InterContinental, mainly for its convenient proximity. This time I stayed in the main building. I had originally booked building 3, but the front desk said the main building was more convenient for dining and moved me there. The overall experience was good, and breakfast was up to standard. The only issue was with the toilet; it made a prolonged noise after flushing. Since I got back from the show quite late, I was too lazy to call anyone. I checked it myself and found that a float wasn't properly sealed. A quick manual fix sorted it out. The complimentary butterfly pastries were quite delicious.

Weekend staycation, very convenient location and great for photos! The bedding was very comfortable and had a lovely local touch. The hotel staff were also very helpful. The executive lounge afternoon tea selection was a bit limited, but the savory snacks were delicious.

I was very satisfied with my stay at the InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin. The location, nestled in a quiet area despite being central, is exceptionally good. The biggest surprise was the huge private garden, with its century-old villas, lawns, and ancient trees. Walking through the garden was incredibly therapeutic and atmospheric, completely easing my fatigue.
