Hotel Indigo HANGZHOU UPTOWN by IHG

My recent stay at Hotel Indigo Hangzhou Uptown was, in my opinion, the most comfortably executed local cultural experience among all the Indigo properties in China. Many urban Indigos tend to try too hard, piling up elements that end up looking cheap and plastic. But this property is entirely different; the integration of Song Dynasty aesthetics is restrained yet sophisticated, striking just the right balance. Whether walking through the public areas or entering the room, thoughtful design touches are everywhere without feeling like a forced, trendy Instagrammable setup. The hotel uses the "Four Arts of the Song Dynasty"—tea preparation, incense burning, flower arranging, and hanging paintings—as its core design theme, reinterpreting Song-style aesthetics with a very modern approach. Porcelain-related elements can be found throughout the public spaces, alongside fish-scale metal partitions and rustic, elegant artifact displays. Every step reveals a new view, creating a steady and immersive ambiance. The guest rooms were an even bigger surprise: lantern-shaped lighting fixtures and Song-style sheer curtains with landscape patterns subtly bring classical symbols into the space. It's refined and full of character, highly memorable, and achieves a wonderful balance between classical and modern. The front desk service left a great impression. When I mentioned in conversation that I like collecting hotel key cards, the attentive staff kindly gifted me a whole set. Compared to the cookie-cutter wooden key cards found at many IHG properties, the set at Hotel Indigo Uptown features exquisite designs and a variety of styles. As a key card collector, I was head over heels in love. The hardware maintenance is on point. Both the public areas and guest rooms are impeccably clean, well-kept, and high-quality. Overall, it breaks away from the cliché of boutique hotels forcing culture just for the sake of it. The elegance and charm of the Song Dynasty are not just superficial decorations, but permeate the entire spatial atmosphere. Highly recommended for those who appreciate Song aesthetics and value hotel design details. It makes for a thoroughly comforting stay.

Hotel Indigo has always been a favorite of mine, and this stay certainly didn't disappoint. Amenities: Very well-equipped, featuring a coffee machine and a Dyson hair dryer, which was a great touch. Cleanliness: Spotless. Environment: Lovely. Service: From the front desk to housekeeping, every staff member was attentive. A special shout-out to Felix, Klee, and Zoe at the front desk for their warm smiles and thoughtful service. Breakfast was fabulous with a wide variety, great quality, and delicious taste. My only suggestion: it would be even better if they could upgrade to smart toilets in the future.

Great location, within walking distance to Hupao Park and the Xiaofeng Art Museum. Full of Song Dynasty aesthetics with a scenic view at every turn—definitely the modern Chinese style I love. The restaurant deserves high praise, especially the Pian'er Chuan noodles at breakfast and the fish soup at dinner; both were fresh, delicious, and suited for travelers from all over who aren't fans of sweets. A huge shoutout to our butler Garrick! Upon check-in, he patiently helped me link my membership and explained everything clearly. Afterward, he assisted with dinner reservations, delivered food (food delivery is kept outside the building, and the butler brings it up), and properly handled my stay extension. All the warm tips and services were enthusiastic and attentive. You can really feel the great work ethic of the young staff here. This will definitely be my top choice when visiting Hangzhou again!

The room was clean and hygienic, Jason at the front desk provided great service, and the transportation is convenient.

Very convenient for hiking, about a 10-minute walk to the Eight Diagrams Field (Bagua Tian). Coming back to the hotel for a shower after a morning mountain hike felt amazing. There are several must-try restaurants nearby, which is quite nice. Although it's not in the bustling downtown area, it's only about 200 meters from the subway station, making getting around very convenient. The breakfast selection isn't huge, but it has all the basics, and the best part is that everything tastes good—it fueled me up nicely for my daily hikes. The staff were warm and proactive. I had my luggage shipped to the hotel in advance, and the bellhop even offered to bring it up to my room, which definitely deserves a thumbs-up. I'd be more than happy to stay here again for my future hiking trips.

Indigo Hotel Hangzhou Shangcheng surprised me with an amazing stay! ✨ The hotel perfectly blends Song Dynasty aesthetics with modern luxury, featuring江南 (Jiangnan) details everywhere, creating a fantastic ambiance. The room was spacious and clean, with excellent amenities like a Dyson hairdryer and Marshall speaker. The minibar was refilled for free, the bedding was soft and comfortable, and the soundproofing was superb, washing away all travel fatigue. The location is excellent, near the Southern Song Imperial City ruins, making it convenient to visit Bagua Field and Yu Huang Mountain. Subway access is also easy. The breakfast offered a great mix of Western and Chinese options, including authentic Hangzhou snacks, and the service was attentive and thoughtful. It’s a quiet oasis amidst the hustle and bustle, perfect for both vacations and longer stays.

Convenient location, right near Metro Line 4. It's also very close to Yuhuang Mountain and Manjuelong. The butler Garrick upgraded our room to a more spacious and quiet one. The breakfast was fantastic, with mostly different options on both days. The bread pudding was absolute perfection, and all the hot dishes tasted great. I would definitely consider staying here again next time I visit.

I specifically chose this time to visit Hangzhou to enjoy the osmanthus flowers, and staying at this hotel was a great experience. The location is convenient, the service is wonderful, and the rooms are clean and tidy. I just hope the breakfast could be a bit more varied to make it even better.
