Really lovely hotel with a Michelin star restaurant on site. The staff were lovely and the room was good for 3 stars. Large, with really good air con. The only thing I’d say as an improvement - I would have liked a mini fridge in the room to keep drinks cold. We also ate in the restaurant one night and had the tasting menu, which was great. The starter, desert and cheese board were amazing.

We made a last minute booking and when we arrived at 3 am, they had no record of our booking. However, the concierge was extremely helpful and showed us to our room and said we could sort the booking out in the morning. The room was generally clean and tidy however the bathroom showers were the kind where you have to hold the showerhead in your hand which is slightly annoying and rustic. The rooms do not have air-conditioning which was slightly insufferable when it was 37°C. There was an included fan but of course this doesn’t really do anything. I appreciate the hotel does not control the weather however I would argue that air-conditioning is a generally basic requirement for a modern hotel which was charging over €250 for one night. We didn’t eat any food here just because of our schedule. There is on-site parking, but I cannot confirm if it’s chargeable or not because we parked on the street for free. As a general rule, this is an okay hotel with excellent friendly and helpful staff who speak an excellent amount of English however I would reconsider a different hotel if you book here in the summer because the rooms would be simply too hot and the showers are in adequate.

The art-deco Hotel Radio is attractive architecturally andcertainly has charm, but it does not offer the level of comfort and service I expect from a hotel of its standing. A previous visit had left me purring and prepared to forget the difficult journey up from Clermont Ferrand to find it, but almost from the start of our lastest visit we felt that offering us comfort was not the prmary objective of the patron or her team It began when I found myself having to move the hotel's waste bins in order to access the car park; they had been left blocking the entrance - and not recently left, by the look of it. I was not offered help with my bags after we had walked up the road to reception, although I was clearly struggling as we climbed the stairs. Sadly, I am no longer young. Our room was large and certainly adequate, but not very up-to-date. Views out across the city were good and one of its highlights, but the room itself was very noisy and unsuitable for an afternoon rest. For much of the time we were there it sounded like furniture was being moved in neighbouring rooms or possibly in the dining room. It was good to have a tub and shower, although the bath took a very long time to run. The worst aspect was the radiators, old-fasioned metal heaters blasting out a very high level of heat over night. My wife and I never sleep in hot rooms. There were no controls to turn them down. I spoke to the manager; she told me she could do it from her office. She didn't, however. We were subject to high levels of heat all night, even with all the windows open. At check-out nexy morning, the reception staff seemed surprised our request had been ignored. Whatever the reason this was so (and i do hope it didn't relate to problems we'd raised about the restaurant that evening) it made for a very unpleasant night. For the price charged, this was a stay that I think fell well below acceptable levels and I shall wonder for a long time why we were treated so badly. My review of the restaurant is posted separately.

I have stayed at this hotel six times or more over the past ten years or so. It's my favorite stopover on my way to southern France. If you like Art Deco and an authentic experience in a family-run hotel, you can't go wrong. You could go out for dinner in the region, but the Michelin-star restaurant is a must—even if you don't stay at the hotel. The Auvergne region is superb for walking. If you're on a road trip, this hotel is the ideal starting point to explore the mountainous roads.
