This was our first time staying at a Virgin property. We arrived from another wonderful hotel, Belmond La Residencia. The views at Son Bunyola were spectacular, and service was very good everywhere except the pool. The pool service was astonishingly bad though. No one would help with towels or umbrellas, and you had to go up to the bar to make an order. No one would come to us. The “lifeguard” who was supposed to be helping just stood there and watched people struggle as they moved umbrellas. It was frankly upsetting since we had the opposite experience at Belmond. Son Bunyola runs such a good operation everywhere else on the property that I’m surprised the pool was so poorly supervised. We did have the best massages we’ve ever had at a hotel. This property also had one of our favorite rooms ever with a balcony called “The Juliet” that the original owner built for his wife. Despite being a refurnished villa, it felt like a brand new building with all modern set up down to even the thermostat and TV streaming - probably the most up to date I’ve ever seen in Europe - with one drawback: the world’s smallest gym. This is a place for “quiet luxury” as the nearest town is 15 minutes. You can also visit the properties vineyards for a wine tasting, hiking, tennis, yoga, and beekeeping. We did none as we took this time to just relax and work by the pool. Due to the gym and pool service, I would not go back but it is worth going to for quiet and relaxation.
