Gurkha Boutique Hotel (Jokhang Temple Barkhor Street Branch)

The room was clean, but what really stood out was the unique character of this guesthouse. It's a 400-year-old ancient building that functions as a museum, and it's beautifully decorated with a distinct ******* style. The private courtyard is lovely, and they offer free afternoon tea. Many travel photographers even bring their clients here for photoshoots – the pictures turn out amazing! Even with my friend's shaky hands, the few shots she took of me still had a great vibe. Most importantly, the location is super easy to find, right on Barkhor Street. The whole street is bustling with places to eat, drink, and shop. Everything is close by – it's only a ten-minute walk to the Potala Palace and three minutes to the Jokhang Temple. There are also plenty of pubs, atmospheric bars, unique ******* restaurants, and even affordable makeup and costume shops.

After comparing several options for my trip to Lhasa, I chose the Goraka Boutique Hotel, and its location truly earned bonus points. It's just a few minutes' walk to Jokhang Temple and the Barkhor Street kora route, making it incredibly convenient for exploring, dining, and sightseeing without long commutes. The hotel itself is a 400-year-old former Nepalese consulate building, and the Gesar Gyapo Museum is right in the courtyard, exuding a strong ******* architectural charm. My favorite spot was the ground-floor courtyard area; it has a wonderful ambiance. Sitting there, sipping sweet tea or juice, soaking up the plateau sun, is incredibly peaceful and stress-relieving. The room came with a thoughtful 'plateau survival kit' – face masks, hair care products, essential oil makeup remover, and wet wipes were all provided. These little items saved me the hassle of preparing them myself for a high-altitude trip. The courtyard setting is perfect for photoshoots, whether it's for casual snapshots or video transitions, it looks great. The staff were very gentle and kind. It's a quiet oasis amidst the hustle and bustle; after exploring the lively Barkhor Street, returning to the tranquil courtyard for a peaceful rest was wonderful. Overall, my stay was excellent, and I'd definitely recommend considering this place when visiting Lhasa.

To be honest, I was out almost every day and didn't spend much time in the room, just sleeping. But today, after switching hotels, I realized how comfortable this place was. Maybe it's the building's structure, but the room temperature was very pleasant, and it felt great to stay here. I'm not sure if it was because of this place, but I genuinely didn't suffer much from altitude sickness during my first two days in Lhasa. As for the ancient charm and cultural heritage, I won't go into it, as other reviews cover that. However, I'm willing to give a big thumbs up to the breakfast here! Honestly, I was out and about most of the past two days and didn't eat much, but the hotel's breakfast was truly delicious. Maybe it's also because I haven't had many vegetables, but the rice noodles were good, the greens were good, and the small cakes were good. This breakfast alone made it worth it.

Staying in a 400-year-old building, even my altitude sickness disappeared! 😂 Their place is located in the heart of Barkhor Street, just a few minutes' walk from Jokhang Temple. This time, I stayed in their basic room type, the 'Courtyard King Room.' The 25㎡ internal space was spacious and comfortable, and the '24-hour oxygen supply' by the bed, available for both diffusion and nasal cannula, ensured a great night's sleep! The bathroom has a dry/wet separation, and they even provide face masks, makeup remover wipes, and essential oil toiletries. The rooftop terrace offers direct views of the Potala Palace and is beautifully decorated, perfect for taking stunning photos and videos!

Very close to Barkhor Street, allowing you to experience it differently both day and night. The breakfast was excellent; I finally got to eat delicious vegetables and self-serve butter tea.

I really loved the clear and beautiful view of the hotel courtyard in the morning light. The corridors displayed many lovely items, and there was even a museum, but unfortunately, I didn't have time to visit. I hope to come back again next time. The room was neat, clean, and cozy. The diffuser and nasal oxygen effectively helped with altitude sickness. Breakfast was plentiful with fresh fruit. My favorite was the beef dumplings (the beef chunks were distinct, and the dumpling skin was chewy). I even got to make tsampa myself. It's a rare oasis of peace and quiet amidst the bustling streets, perfect for unwinding. The rooftop cafe offers views of the Potala Palace, and guests can go up for free to visit and take photos. The hotel is conveniently located near the entrance of Barkhor Street. It's just a few minutes' walk to Liukai Fruit Store after a taxi ride. It was very convenient to explore Barkhor Street on foot every day. The ******* noodles for breakfast were delicious, and there was plenty of fruit. Afternoon tea also included a complimentary pot of sweet tea. The room came with a nasal oxygen concentrator, which was a thoughtful touch. My only minor complaint, personally, was that the room felt a bit small and the soundproofing wasn't great. Because of this, I didn't spend much time in the room other than sleeping, preferring to relax in the courtyard. The room was spotless, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I especially loved the spacious bathroom with its high-quality fixtures, and the bedding was top-notch too. Breakfast was a delicious and abundant spread. Plus, the location is fantastic – a short walk to Barkhor Street and Jokhang Temple.
