Otaru Retreat Kuramure by Onko Chishin

I used to stay here many years ago and had a fantastic impression, but after a long break, I returned to find the quality has declined significantly. The public bath now charges 15,000 JPY for 90 minutes. The bedsheets are no longer cotton; they feel like polyester, which might be easier for the hotel to clean but feels rough and unpleasant on the skin. The pajamas, which used to be high-quality cotton (I even bought a set to take home because I loved them so much!), are now made of an uncomfortable material. The food, which I once found impressive, was just mediocre this time, and the portions felt a bit small – I didn't quite feel full. I later found out the hotel is under new management. It's a shame that the previous owner's meticulous care hasn't been carried on. The bar was unstaffed; you had to call for service, unlike before when someone was always present. The library was also poorly lit, making it impossible to sit and read – are they trying to save electricity? It's truly disappointing; I probably won't be visiting again.

This inn offered excellent hospitality. The food was also delicious. There were many staff members, and while there seemed to be some lack of coordination, overall it was a wonderful place to stay. Thank you very much.

Both dinner and breakfast were luxurious and satisfying. The room lighting was a little dim, and my elderly mother had some difficulty seeing. It was a shame that the indoor socks got caught on a splinter on the floor and tore immediately after we arrived. 😢 The slippers were comfortable, though.

Entering the hotel, the air conditioning is very good, because the outside is -10 degrees, but the interior is very warm, and not baked, so very comfortable, the room is not big, but with all the traditional Japanese room things, the furnishings are very beautiful, However, if the luggage is larger and more, it becomes very crowded, but actually feels like home. Because one night two meals, so there is a full dinner breakfast, are exquisite kaiseki cuisine, each meal also have staff to the room in advance to lead us to the restaurant, their own room, no one disturbed. The hot spring area has indoor and outdoor, not big, but enough, we soaked twice and did not bump into anyone, chartered, great! ! After check out, the staff bowed to not see our car! ! There is a traditional Japanese etiquette! ! ! We will definitely come back to experience this one! ! !

A very good hotel, high-end, first-class service. The only drawback is that the temperature of the outdoor hot spring is a little low, it would be better if it is higher.
