JW Marriott Hotel Taiyuan

I have to give a huge shout-out to this Marriott stay! I was especially impressed during peak breakfast hours when the General Manager, accompanied by department heads, personally served guests on the front lines. This unexpected level of service was truly a bonus! Hats off to Marriott Taiyuan for their dedication; I look forward to my next visit.

The air conditioning in some rooms was really poor. I asked to switch rooms and waited for nearly an hour. The bathtub stopper was broken, and the drain cover would fall off with the slightest touch. Although it's newly renovated, the facilities are quite basic. The pool is outsourced to a third party, and after seeing it, there's no way you'd want to swim there – it's full of kids taking swimming lessons. The changing rooms were filthy and disorganized, with tissues and towels all over the floor. Essentially, guests can't use the public areas. The hotel lobby management is chaotic. It's next to a KTV and a shopping mall, so the entrance is often jammed with traffic, and many drivers are unwilling to drive in. Plus, there are often drunk people from banquets hogging the only four available seats, and there's basically no concierge service. This JW Marriott is managed by a third-party, Maoye, and the overall standard of service is nowhere near what a JW Marriott should be. I suggest headquarters come and investigate, revoke their branding, and improve their service quality and management standards.

Staying in a JW Marriott Executive Room in Taiyuan, the corner room offers an amazing view and a luxurious, quiet environment. A special thanks to Carl and Andy for their meticulous and thoughtful service, and their warm, genuine attitude. They took care of everything throughout my stay, making it a perfect experience. This hotel is located in Xiaodian District, a bustling area right next to Maoye Plaza. The rooms are spacious and well-proportioned. Being in the city center, there's not much of a view to speak of. I've stayed at countless JWs... and not one cleaning staff member ever says "hello" when you pass them. At check-in, the front desk forgot to give me a room key, forgot the complimentary red wine, and the card they gave me didn't even work for the executive lounge. They really need more training and better management! Customer experience should always be the top priority.

I was quite anxious about this family trip, especially since I have an elderly family member with mobility issues. I worried about inconvenience and not being able to provide enough care. However, all my concerns melted away after checking into this hotel, and I genuinely feel compelled to leave a positive review. First, I want to thank the front desk staff. When they saw my elderly family member having difficulty walking during check-in, they proactively asked about the situation and very thoughtfully lent us a wheelchair for daily use during our stay. This small gesture truly made a huge difference. For the next few days, my family member could easily get around the hotel grounds without getting tired and out of breath each time. This kind of proactive care isn't something every hotel provides. What touched me even more was how the hotel staff actively paid attention to our travel schedule. Knowing we'd be going out during morning and evening rush hours, they not only reminded us to avoid congested times but also helped us plan more time-efficient and less strenuous routes. This meticulous attention to detail made our whole family feel warm inside, as if we were staying with relatives. And let's talk about the breakfast – it was incredibly rich and varied. There were both Chinese and Western options: hot dishes, cold dishes, congee, pastries, milk, coffee, fruit… a huge selection. My elderly family member enjoyed the steamed buns, fried dough sticks, and plain congee, while the child loved the cakes, yogurt, and fried eggs. Everyone found something they liked. Starting each day with a full and satisfying breakfast made our outings much more energetic. Finally, I have to mention the efficiency of check-in and check-out. The entire process was smooth, with no annoying queues or waiting. From the warm gesture of lending a wheelchair at the front desk to the rush-hour travel reminders, the abundant breakfast, and convenient services, every single detail made us feel the hotel's genuine care. In summary, if you're traveling with family, you definitely won't regret choosing this hotel. Thank you to every staff member for your warm efforts; we will definitely stay here again on our next visit!

Hands down the best hotel in Taiyuan. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the service is good too. The only thing is that the air conditioning needs to be set to the lowest temperature to feel cold. Perhaps it was just too cold outside for it to make a difference. The breakfast selection was a bit limited.

The sliding door in the room wasn't designed very well. The hotel's location is excellent, with plenty of food, drinks, and entertainment options nearby. The front desk and restaurant staff were all very welcoming. I'd definitely choose to stay here again on my next trip.

After spending a few days in the surrounding counties and cities, I was looking forward to a good rest back in Taiyuan, so I specifically booked a suite at the Marriott. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst hotel of the entire trip. Upon check-in, there wasn't even a basic concierge to help with luggage; I had to drag my own bags to the front desk. Their only explanation was that they were busy with a team. The first night, I couldn't sleep a wink due to the constant noise from cars 'street racing' and honking. Even with the air conditioning off, there was a persistent humming sound. The next morning, when I drew the curtains, I discovered that directly below was Maoye Tiandi's air conditioning equipment room, filled with large commercial AC units and vents. Later, after my husband showered, I went in about half an hour later and the floor was still covered in deep standing water – the drainage was terrible! I had to turn the water off periodically and wait for it to drain, otherwise it would overflow. For a five-star hotel, they still provided an old-fashioned, extremely heavy iron. And incredibly, there was no garment steamer available, even though every business chain hotel has them now. When I was in Linfen, I even had an Audi A6 for airport/station transfers (oh, and this is another first for a five-star hotel – the Marriott didn't even have this upon inquiry). The room they moved me to on the second day was practically the same, so I decisively checked out for the last two nights! Oh, and I even found a hair in the watermelon at the executive lounge...

Is this truly what a five-star hotel should be like? The service quality is worse than that of a budget hotel. The ladies at the front desk lacked basic respect, and the female manager in the lobby was even worse, not even bothering to look up when I clearly needed her attention. The room temperature was unbearably hot; it wouldn't go down for the first two days, finally normalizing on the third. Why was that? During happy hour at the Executive Lounge, the menu listed 'Sichuan boiled beef,' but it was all lamb. After I pointed it out, they just changed it to 'Sichuan boiled meat slices.' What about guests with dietary restrictions? I had no expectations for this hotel, only disappointment. I strongly advise others to avoid it if possible.
