Hôtel Barrière l'Hermitage

Beautiful hotel with central location in the city and right on the beach. Most of the staff is young, helpful and very kind. Not sure why the older staff feel colder though. Overall, the experience is very good but we still think the hotel is overrated. Especially regarding the room which is clean, comfortable but very simple. It could be refreshed and the style could be more elaborate to reflect the level and the style of the hotel.

This is a fabulous hotel built in the era of the Grand Hotel. Its location on the beach is superb and there is so much to love. Upon arrival the lobby is cool, elegant but still welcoming and with an efficient front desk - a big shout out to the concierge team who were so helpful in booking and advising on restaurants. Our room was lovely, very comfortable, bright and clean, ocean facing with a view that never gets old. Hearing the gentle lap for the waves at night was simply divine and no matter what time of day or night, the view across the beach and Atlantic was truly magical. There are a few minus points for the bathroom - the lovely rain shower barely functions properly and the hand held shower fixed to an awkward position and as with so many hotel bathrooms, the shower leaks all over the floor. The separate lavatory is a great idea but anyone wider than an eight year old child needs to be a contortionist to get in, to clarify I am a rather small person both in height and width - We had much laughter over this strange construction feature. We loved the beach, the beach restaurant spa and the gym is really fantastic, all the equipment, super clean and with a wonderful view. Despite a few a few little niggles, I would definitely come again and not hesitate to recommend this lovely place.

I've stayed in La Baule many times but this is the first at L'Hermitage. Very nice hotel however our room was exceptionally warm and the wifi didn't work. The next morning I spoke to reception about it before going to play golf. Upon return we were moved straight away to a sea facing room and where the internet was working. More than that they moved us to the newly refurbished floor where the rooms are fab and very modern which is what this well located hotel needs. Very impressed with the service and the new room - if you are going to stay ask for a room on the 4th floor with sea views! The only thing missing is tea and coffee making facilities - but that won't stop me coming back!

Beautiful palace style hotel, contemporary and very chic. Well located on Le Baule right in front of the beach and very quite zone. Although you can walk to city center in minutes. Room was spacious with beach and pool view. Excellent breakfast. Highly recommended for couples.

We booked this hotel through iTravel & it really could not have been any better than it was !.. The hotel has just been totally renovated & it is pristine inside & out. The staff were superb, efficient & friendly from the front desk, to reception, breakfast / restaurant areas & the bar. We were given additional bar discounts because we played golf at La Baule international golf courses & that was an unexpected bonus. The room were very clean & beds extremely comfortable. If we can get a similar deal next year we will return for sure, rather than doing the norm of a different town each trip. Great hotel... !!

After a lovely 3.5 hour TGV train ride from Paris we arrived in LaBaule. Quick taxi and we arrived at the beautiful L’Hermitage. Staff is super friendly and very welcoming. Everyone speak English very well. Upon check in we went to our room which was nice, we booked a standard room however if you are traveling on a romantic hideaway I suggest a superior sea view room, none anymore available. Room size was good, recently redone. Bathroom extremely small and they tried to hard to fit it all in there, I prefer rooms with a stall shower however none available and we had the tinniest bathroom, beds are California King and great pillow program to pick from The bar is lovely and great guys working there, breakfast was the best, huge, huge selection and really, really good! We had dinner in the restaurant which was disappointing, extremely long wait and ok’ish food, we expected more Again, service was fantastic

We booked a Deluxe Double and upgraded to a sea view when we checked in for a small incremental fee. We were told ours was a non-renovated room but it was still very nice. It was much larger than we expected. The furniture and carpet were a bit worn. It was clean, fresh and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. We rate all of the staff “good” – valet, reception, concierge, and wait staff in the bar – as we were treated as one would expect in a Five Star property, but service was nothing exceptional. They were nice, but we never felt like the service was any better than Four Star hotels we stayed in. The public areas were nice with interesting art in the lobby. The only issue we saw was the pool which seemed to have a serious mold problem. There did not seem to be a pool attendant so used towels piled up on chairs later in the afternoon. Also, there did not appear to be food or beverage service at the pool. These are things we did not expect in a Five Star. The Wi-Fi worked well for us. All in all, a very good stay, but not equal to other Five Star hotels we have stayed in in the past.

We’re just coming back of the most beautiful and dreamy stay at L’Hermitage. I didn’t get a chance to stay there since they last refurbished it. From arrival to departure it is exquisite, authentic and so welcoming. The team was truly wonderful and made us feel very welcome. The room was bright and spacious with the most wonderful view on the beach and pool. The pool is perfectly sized for the hotel and has this kind of old luxury French vibe to it that makes it very refined. The surroundings of the hotel is absolutely stunning. We took the opportunity of a gorgeous sunset night to drive along la grande cote du Pouliguen: dreamy. By day don’t miss walking and driving around those gorgeous villas Bauloises. The valet parking was the best. Entering this hotel always feels very special but departing was as exclusive with the valet cleaning the windows of the car before we left to the airport. Such a nice and genuine touch. I definitely look forward to come back soo!
