We are a well-traveled, Korean-American couple with adult child who stayed in the Botanik for one week in October 2026. Hotel is large, consisting of two buildings A and B-dong. Full of foreigners, a lot of Japanese, a few Australian, SE Asians, Americans/Canadians, a tour group of Israelis, a few Indians, Middle Easterners. English-speaking lobby staff. New and nicely appointed rooms with a modern/contemporary design.
Not everyone may appreciate the industrial nature of the area, but we loved it. Hotel is adjacent to a covered car park that houses a 70-80’s-era block of small businesses dealing in specialized electrical parts and small appliances. Behind the hotel is a tented market stand selling grains, seaweed, squid, handmade wooden kitchen tools (highly recommend), other small items like back scrubbers and such. This area is undeveloped, a bit old and a bit dilapidated. I hope they keep it. Incredible character. There is some kind of high rise in construction adjacent to the hotel on the other side. Also next to the hotel is a wonderful coffee shop “Burnt Seoul” that is like something out of post-War Europe.
Ubers are easy to call from the hotel. $6-10 to pretty much anywhere north of the river, about $10-$12 to Gangnam. Ubers were so affordable we didn’t bother with public transportation.
In our 3-person suite, we had a washer and portable drying rack (standard for Korea), steam closet, electric cooktop, electric water kettle, microwave (it may have had an oven option, but too difficult to figure out and not worth the fire risk), kitchen sink/sponge/dish detergent, 3 spoons/forks and 1(?) butter knife, 3 wine glasses and mugs. A slim, full-sized fridge/freezer, plates, no bowls. No kitchen knife or cutting board, no pots or pans or cooking utensils (though I believe they are provided upon request). So, minimally stocked to actually cook inside the room.
The other amenities, such as gym, we did not use. The pool was closed by October. The hotel does not store your luggage but there is a locker storage room on site for 2000 won. There is also a small grocery in the complex and another one downstairs outside. There is a laundromat next to that store, which I imagine has dryers.
All in all, we would stay here again. We had reason once to call for help in our room. I believe it was the manager on duty who came, and he was so kindly and respectful (removed his shoes at the door), it left a very good, last impression of the place. I would love it if there had been just a few more square feet open floor space, and translated appliance instructions in English for ultimate convenience. But excellent value for everything provided here.
