Parador de Gijon

Situated in a pretty park right in the middle of Gijon this is a relatively modern Parador on the site of an old watermill. We had one night here and like all Paradores, the room was spotlessly clean. The food at breakfast and dinner was excellent

We were given a small, dated room, with two single beds pushed together. No kettle or tea & coffee making facilities provided in room. There was a small fridge, with two bottles of water, however these were part of the mini-bar contents and if drunk, guests would be charged. So no complimentary bottled water, which, in my opinion, is unacceptable, particularly during very hot weather. The room had an ancient TV with no English speaking channels. We managed to get one of the last remaining spaces in their small private car park, hence we were reluctant to give up our space and drive closer to the old town which is a 30 minute walk through the park and along the promenade. I wish I’d read more reviews before selecting this Parador. Just relieved we were only staying the one night and didn’t include breakfast. Actually had a reasonable nights sleep, comfortable bed and a quiet room. My recommendation - stay somewhere else.

A very pleasant stay. The Parador is located near the park and the Museo del Pueblo (free entry). It´s a short bus ride into town (1.9 euros). The parador is a bit dated but very efficient. Our room faced the noisy car park and had the odd window where you couldn´t draw the net curtains with the window open. Good solid matress on single beds. The staff loaned us a kettle (muchas gracias) as the paradors no longer have any tea & coffee making facilites. WiFi good. Chromecast to TV good. The EV charger was not functioning, which is a great shame - come on Paradors get this at all your hotels. We have found in staying at 5 Paradors this year, the same problem - understaffed!! Esp at breakfast. Chaos. Full marks to Pilar for being so kind. The carpets were grubby & the car park is very small. Air con was poor. Overall we enjoyed our stay as Gijon is a great city & lots to see & do.

Gijon is a great area to visit , the Parador has an excellent location, charming staff and wonderful food.

We stayed 4 nights in the Parador in december. The parador is nicely located in a park and close to the sea. It has nice rooms and very nice and spacious sitting rooms. But it was much too cold everywhere. Heating systems were insufficient and windows leaked cold air. Breakfast and dinner was avarage. A lot of food for dinner but it did not have the quality that you could expect. This could be much better. It was not a surprise that very few people stayed at the hotel.
