Fufu Kyoto

Overall, a very satisfying stay! The room amenities were comprehensive, the soaking tub experience was still fantastic, and the courtyard design was amazing! The breakfast offered a great variety of dishes, and we really enjoyed it. However, the staff seemed a bit discriminatory? During breakfast, we asked to move to a table with a better view and were refused. Later, we asked another male staff member, and he allowed the move. So why couldn't we switch in the first place? Still don't understand. We had a similar feeling during check-in and hope the hotel management takes this seriously and treats all guests equally. I’d like to give a special shoutout to the young gentleman who speaks Chinese. During breakfast, he helped serve our food and introduced the dishes, and at check-out, he proactively helped us with our luggage, called a taxi, and eagerly helped us solve many problems! If it weren't for him, our experience this time would have been much worse.

I was in Kyoto for a conference and decided to experience the Fufu Hotel. While the hotel itself isn't very large, it boasts a very unique Japanese-style garden. I'll review it across four dimensions. First, the location: It's right next to Nanzen-ji Temple and Eikan-do Temple. Eikan-do is just a 10-minute walk away, and it's also very convenient to get to Kiyomizu-dera Temple or Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine. Second, the design: It's a very traditional Japanese-style hotel, and the Japanese garden landscaping inside is particularly exquisite. Third, comfort: It's incredibly comfortable. The hotel rooms have their own private onsen, perfect for soaking away the day's fatigue after a day of walking. The hotel breakfast is also good; it's a set Japanese meal and quite delicious. Finally, service: I think this could be improved. While the staff generally respond to requests, I found their response time wasn't very prompt. Perhaps there are simply too few staff members, which detracted a bit from the overall experience. I believe there's room for improvement in this area.

I had a very satisfying experience this time. Every time I came to Kyoto before, I stayed at international brands, but this time I tried a Japanese-style experience. I couldn't get an early dinner reservation, only 8:30 PM slots were available, so I ordered room service, which was also quite good. The portion was huge, enough for two people. Breakfast was also great, with different dishes every day. The hotel is beautiful, located near Nanzen-ji Temple, making for a very pleasant morning stroll.

The staff were friendly and the room facilities were new.

Not anonymous, excellent, exceeded my expectations! Service: It was raining when we arrived and we didn't have an umbrella. As soon as we got to the hotel entrance, a staff member from the front desk ran out in wooden clogs to give us an umbrella and help us with our luggage. Cleanliness: Impeccable, see for yourself. Environment: Even better, check out the photos. Facilities: There's a Japanese garden, but not much else. Kaiseki Dinner at 8:30 PM: It took 2 and a half hours to finish. You'll be full, but it's a slow pace.

Fufu Kyoto isn't very large, but they make the most of every inch! The landscaping is beautiful and very calming. There are so many lovely details with the lighting and decor. The room was quiet and made for a great sleep! The sound of the running water in the private onsen in the room was the perfect white noise to help me fall asleep. Aside from being a bit far out, it was still a great experience overall, and the off-season price was excellent too!

The only highlight of this hotel is the indoor onsen. The common areas are cramped, with no space for activities or relaxation. The front desk service was highly unprofessional; seeing guests arrive for check-in, they offered no proactive assistance whatsoever, not asking or saying a word, which was incredibly awkward and made us lose all interest in the hotel. Room service was also quite mediocre; they didn't arrange our shoes, didn't clean the faucet which was full of water stains, and didn't organize charging cables (perhaps I'm being a bit picky, but for a hotel at this price point, especially in Japan which is known for its service, it was quite disappointing). Restaurant service was good, but breakfast was a bit monotonous. A warning: you must check out before 11 AM, otherwise, an additional fee will be charged with no room for negotiation, so remember that! This hotel is not worth its price; choose with caution!

The room was very clean and the experience was great.
