Hillbrook Inn

The Hillbrook Inn is a wonderful place to stay, a very relaxing spot. The property is well maintained with well placed decorative touches throughout. The staff is hospitable and helpful. We stayed in the West suite which is in the Hawthorne, a beautiful house located an easy, short drive from the Inn itself, so it's convenient for breakfast. The West suite is a spacious room with a comfortable king bed and a large bathroom. Based on our experience, we would definitely stay at the Hillbrook again. The first night of our stay, we ate dinner at the Inn: 3 courses for $125 per person plus tax and tip. When high prices are charged, customer expectations rise in tandem. Unfortunately, the dinner missed the mark. The scallops did not seem to be dry scallops given their texture and lack of sear. The chicken was tender, but lacked the flavor of any seasoning, brining, or marinade. The pumpkin tiramisu was pumpkin cake, unremarkable. You can get much better meals, and value, at other restaurants in the area. Shepherdstown offers good options and is not a far drive.

I am not sure what I expected when I picked Hillborook Inn & Spa, but I can tell you that it exceeded it. First off, the grounds are stunning. This property is loaced with beautiful old growth trees, lawns and a hilly topography. There is plenty of wildlife too including the sweet turtles hanging out in the pond. The rooms are snug, but sweet and when I was not thrilled about the pillows in my room, the staff was quick to swap them out. We lounged around the lobby space in the later night, using the tv to look at our photos and listen to music. It was comfortable and traditionaly, but quirky as an old inn should be. The restaurant had excellent breakfast and we did stay for the tasting menu dinner during an absolute belter of a thunderstorm and we were grateful that we did not have to venture out. The service was very professional befitting the fine dining price and experience. but I would say that the food did not always land. Again the cost for dinner was a bit high at $125 pp for 3 courses, so we did have expectations. Regardless, we loved the place and hope we have an excuse to visit sagain some time.

Loved the property and the cottage even though the WiFi was terrible. I left them know about it twice and they acted like it isn’t a regular thing, but after reading the reviews I see it is. The property was beautiful and I loved the deer each morning and evening on my walk. I would not do the add-ons again. The dinner was three courses, but little very little food give. We were still hungry after finishing eating. The romantic picnic was nothing special food wise. Not worth the prices for these things. The massage was excellent! So maybe we will go back but we won’t do any add ons and eat dinner elsewhere.

This was an excellent stay despite of the fact I have a mobility problem and our room was 40+ steps above. Unique place and the people I met there were friendly and kind. If you're lucky enough to run into JeanMarie outside weeding, make sure you ask her questions about this area, she's local and extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Our 2nd luck was seeing Chef Kashiff. Never expected that level of frienliness - we were beyond charmed by his story. Don't forget to make the 3 course dinner reservation 24 hour in advance... Wow..

The door to the room was stuck and the bottom was rotting, the door looked like it was about to break. The covers had stains, we slept on top of the covers because we were worried about their cleanliness. The shower had pink bacteria on the door and corners. The window in the shower had big white spots on it like mold. There was dust and the a/c unit was disgusting, filled with dust and debris that made the room feel stuffy. The blinds had stains and was partially torn. The staff was nice and breakfast was good but the room was beyond disappointing and not well-kept. Very disappointed for my first time staying at a B&B.

I love this place. I’m so grateful. I travel alone and am over 60. The Point is perfect for me. The place is so low key, trustful, and welcoming. Breakfasts are beautifully prepared and delicious. I can only say thank you. I will come again.

It was beautiful location. The staff was amazing and the food was excellent highly recommend.

We had an amazing long weekend at Hillbrook. It was like being transported to an English Countryside. The Winter Cottage where we stayed was so comfortable and charming. Their chefs are absolutely amazing, we are still talking about how good our breakfasts and the tasting dinner was.

Lovely Luxury with a spacious sunset suite. Very comfortable bed and sofa. Wish there were one or more sofa tables. staff were delightful, will definitely come again. Please add a cafe for guests not wanting a large expensive dinner. Breakfast Food was very good. Kitchen well equipped for beverage and snack storage, and very clean.
