Hotel Uzbekistan

A pleasant hotel. It feels like stepping back into the USSR. It looks opulent. I feel like an oligarch.

The exterior is grand and the location is fantastic, right by the square with the subway station just next door. The service is great, and there is a wide variety of breakfast options (though not quite to my taste). The room facilities are a bit dated, but it does feature a small balcony.

The room was clean, neat, and hygienic, but the facilities are quite old. The walls are peeling, there are exposed wires, and discarded mattresses were piled up randomly in the hallways. On the first day of check-in, guests started queuing up at 2 PM, yet there was only one staff member handling it. Later, when I couldn't open my room door and asked a floor attendant for help, they simply replied "no English," so I had no choice but to go back downstairs to the front desk. Fortunately, the breakfast staff had a great service attitude, and the front desk staff at check-out were also pleasant. I'll give it a 5-star rating, staying here is really all about the nostalgia.

The only issue I encountered was with the European standard power outlet; charging was frequently interrupted, and I had to find a very specific position for it to work. Otherwise, the air conditioning and hot water were fine, toiletries were provided, and the room was tidy – I didn't experience any of the problems mentioned in some negative reviews. The front desk staff seemed very friendly and helpful, explaining things like 'Baitiao' (a payment method) and giving directions to attractions. The hotel's location right in the city center, with a subway station not far away, feels like its biggest advantage. The 17th-floor terrace offers nice views, and the breakfast on the first floor is just a very standard hotel buffet. For the price, I think it's a perfectly decent budget hotel, and given its excellent location, it feels quite worthwhile.

Overall, it's a good stay with attentive service, but the downside is that the rooms are a bit dated and there was quite a bit of dust outside the window. I hope the hotel will continue to improve and bring new life to its historic charm. I would definitely stay here again next time.

An old, iconic hotel. The restaurant and lobby are okay, but the rooms look like a museum. Things are often broken.
