The Westin Pazhou

Hi everyone, I rarely review hotels, even though I travel for business frequently. This hotel made me seriously question Ctrip's rating system – how did it get a 4.7? For a 5-star hotel at 870 a night, plus an extra bed for 350, it's an absolute rip-off. The front desk staff were unprofessional and had poor attitudes, and the facilities were old (which I expected, so it's not the main reason for a bad review, as it is an older hotel). We arrived at the hotel around 10 PM and found the room stank. We kept searching for the source, even suspecting our slippers had a foot odor. Then, we got into bed to sleep, and believe it or not, the smell woke us up! It was the duvet – and by then, it was 1 AM. Please watch the video; after I said a few things, the person who brought the new duvet just slammed the door and left. I don't blame him, it was a night shift. I reported it to Ctrip, and they said the hotel would offer compensation. I directly refused to communicate with the hotel because I just wanted to leave an honest review. The picture shows the hotel curtains letting in light. We were still dealing with the duvet at 1 AM, and by 5 AM, when it got bright, the light leakage was so bad it woke us up completely. We couldn't sleep well at all. Of course, after tossing and turning, I reported it to Ctrip around 6 AM. If this hotel were priced at 300-400 yuan, I wouldn't leave a bad review. While 870 isn't an exorbitant price, for a hotel with old facilities, bad service (at least everyone I encountered was indifferent), and terrible hygiene (the carpet was removed because it stank, and the room just had wooden floors), it's barely a 3-star. Charging this price in Guangzhou is quite a scam; there are so many other 5-star hotels at the same price point. I'm writing this review to warn others. Unless you're attending the Canton Fair, seriously, don't stay at this hotel. It's not worth it. The two hotels next door, Courtyard and Langham, are newer and better in all aspects.

My stay in the Westin Hotel suite was fantastic! The suite was spacious, with a simple yet elegant design, and the overall environment was clean and tidy. The bedding was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep. The hotel staff were friendly and professional; both check-in and check-out were efficient, making me feel right at home. The facilities are comprehensive, making it perfect for both business trips and leisure vacations. The overall experience exceeded my expectations. I'll definitely choose to stay here again if I have the chance and will recommend it to my friends.

I've been busy for a long time, but I finally have a moment to write this review today. I've stayed at the Westin Sanya Haitang Bay before and was extremely satisfied with both the breakfast and the service, so when I came to Guangzhou, I didn't hesitate to choose the Westin again. However, it completely failed to meet my expectations. Perhaps because I was comparing it to the Westin Sanya Haitang Bay, the breakfast selection here seemed quite limited, and there's no comparison for the public areas. Let's talk about the service! I mistook this hotel for another where I had redeemed welcome fruit with 1 point on Trip.com. So, when I didn't find any fruit in my room, I called the hotel. The way they communicated needs improvement, as it made me feel like they were trying to take advantage of me, almost insulted. Perhaps they realized their poor communication had upset me, so they reported it to the manager. Soon after, the manager called to say that welcome fruit had been arranged and might already be in my room. However, when I returned to my room that evening, there was no fruit. So, I called the hotel again (at this point, it wasn't about whether I got the fruit or not, but about feeling toyed with). The hotel answered and explained, saying they would arrange it as soon as possible. Yet, 'as soon as possible' turned into over an hour. I was already in bed when the staff came to deliver the fruit. So frustrating!

The room was spacious and well-equipped. The cleanliness was up to standard, but the front desk service was just average. The location is very convenient, with no traffic jams and it's also very quiet! The hotel breakfast was plentiful!

For exhibitors or business travelers, the location here is almost perfect. The hotel is directly connected to Area C of the Canton Fair Complex via an aerial walkway, just a few minutes' walk away. This allows you to avoid the crowds during large exhibitions and commute between the hotel and the exhibition hall with ease. The Westin Heavenly Bed, standard in every room, is renowned for ensuring a good night's sleep. Most guests report the bedding is soft and comfortable, providing quality rest after an intense day of work. Furthermore, both the breakfast and executive lounge receive high praise for their wide variety of options, including freshly steamed shrimp dumplings and rice noodle rolls, which are perfect for energizing your day.

My family was very satisfied, the view was great, and the breakfast was super rich.

Got an upgraded room with a decent view. **Facilities:** The room had a lot of appliances, including a dryer, but it wasn't very effective. It was incredibly loud when on, making it impossible to sleep. The air conditioning was also quite noisy. The pool was large and not crowded, though the water quality was just okay. **Environment:** It’s not a direct river view, and there was construction going on downstairs. Even on the 41st floor, I was woken up at 6 AM by construction noise and couldn't fall back asleep, which really detracted from the stay. **Hygiene:** Room cleanliness was acceptable. The breakfast spread was very rich and a huge plus. However, in certain parts of the restaurant, there was a strong smell of rotten meat, which significantly impacted the dining experience. **Service:** Generally satisfactory. The pool and breakfast service hours were extended, which was excellent and deserves five stars.

I've had their lunch buffet before and it was great. This time, I snagged a good deal using a Guangdong culture and tourism voucher, booking a one-night stay with breakfast and dinner, and the experience was fantastic. While the hotel's decor shows its age a bit, it's very well-maintained, clean, spacious, and soundproofed. It truly lives up to its reputation as an established luxury hotel. The hotel's buffet is consistently delicious. Dinner offers a wide variety, with the smoked salmon, marinated seafood, white wine, and freshly shaken cocktails all being excellent. The breakfast rice noodles (changfen) are better than what you'd find in many restaurants, and they're incredibly tasty with Guilin chili sauce – I had two servings, haha! I didn't bring my swimsuit this time, so I couldn't try the pool, but I'll definitely check it out next time.
